Long time lurker - considering a 599GTO or F12tdf as a new addition. My question is when shopping for these limited run vehicles, should I be concerned about a high number of owners or is that normal? Looking at the tdf for sale in TX right now with 6 owners. Any guidance appreciated. Thanks!

    I am not in US.

Of course it worries more than 1 owner car.
I would look for the perfect 1 owner car.
I don’t know if it is normal but 6 seems a lot.

One or two owners would be my limit on an F12tdf. If you resell then a 6 owner car will advertise as a 7 owner car and the new buyer will be 8. Too many for a young car IMO.

Check the ownership, did the car ever leave the showroom? Back in the olden days what was showing in your ownership profile influenced what you would be offered in the future, many cars, for instance Speciale's (years ago) would be passed from owner to owner and never leave the showroom, all to build ownership profiles...

If I found myself in your envious position, the number of owners won't worry me as long as service history and the car check out. TDF owners also seem to be a different breed. One thing they seem to have in common for the most part is that they don't drive the TDF much if at all.

I would not be concern about that at all. I am sure the six times that this million dollar car was sold the buyer had mechanics pouring over the thing. Plus I'm assuming this car has about 2,500 miles or less on it.

Is this a private sale because the only one I see for sale in Tx is the one at FoSA, and this one only has 2 owners and I may know the current owner.

    Seriously!

Some of you guys are unbelievable!

You should buy a car for the condition that it is in, the maintenance records and of course the mileage will have an overall bearing on the price.

If you were to buy a regular car that had 60,000 miles and a heap of owners, then you may say, that at some point one or two of the owners may not have look after the car.

I am tipping this TDF has low mileage and each and every owner would have cherished and babied that car.

In no way would multiple ownership of this car prevent me from buying it. This would be just the same as buying a 356 Speedster or an F40 or an Enzo and the owners would not bother me at all.

Right you are, but, there are some people who won't buy with that many owners in a short time frame. Thus, the OP is right to be concerned about the impact on value. I would say if the price reflects the number of owners, then go for it. Hard to say how to value it, undoubtedly you will want a bigger discount and the seller probably doesnt want to give any discount. Meet in the middle and let the good times roll. Best of all, stop the ownership number inflation with you.

Not the same as a classic. Every F12tdf is similar in condition and miles. All things equal normal to pick the one owner car. Car adds always highlight this to draw a quicker sale or higher ask.

Have PPI done by a pro, assuming it passes, wouldn't let # of owners slow me one bit. PM me for guy in TX who can do it for you.

    Here's the deal.

When everything goes electric and let's just say there are 1 -3 TDF's on the market. If you want to buy a TDF, you will buy the best car for you.

Which includes, spec, condition and mileage. Regardless if the car has had 1 or 8 owners.

It is also important to note that we are all custodians of these work's of art and we all have a genuine responsibility to ensure that these cars are kept for future generations to cherish.

What if all things considered yet one has 8 owners and the other has original owner? Agree its spec, condition, service history and then mileage. But really most will have everything but the spec since they are kept at low mileage and cared for.

    Ok.

    So there are two cars.

    Both the same spec.

    Same condition.

    Same miles.

One car has 1 owner and the other car has 8 owners.

Of course the 1 owner will be chosen.

The first three variables are very difficult to match up when there were on 799 of these cars.

Anyway, the more time that passes allowing proper collectors to lock away these cars, the harder it will be to find a one owner or lower owner car.

May the Horse be with you

Appreciate all the feedback... still have not pulled the trigger. Looking at a GTO as well. Agree with the sentiment that all else equal, of course i would prefer fewer owners but in general these things are very well kept and # of owners shouldnt be the disqualifying factor.

This was about the FoSA car. Contact at the dealer said 2 local owners but 6 total.

It looks like FoSA car is either sold or off market. Thought this car had only 2 owners per carfax. Looks like asking price for TDF has increased recently (FoNB has a red one listed for 1.6M).
