Could you please tell us more about the facelift? That's the mysterious car to me, not the big brother.
No it is not correct. Correct is that small manufactures (below 10 000 units a year) (also lambo, even if it is part of the Volkswagen group) have time till 2021 to full fill euro 6d, (they can produce till 2021 Euro 6c emission cars) where the others, like Porsche etc have allready now to deal with the norm euro6d. Means that the Eu gives the small car manufactures a period of „grace“ to cop with the strong reglementation and to use the apprporiate OPF (Otto particel filter) https://www.opf-filter.de/euro6c-abgasnorm/ It is all written in the euro reglementation guides
The car of this thread is for Geneva. 488 Big brother for first half 2019 (You can guess month if you follow my past posts) *If any website/brand or similar wants to use this information please give credits to the Ferrarichat community.
A period of grace is because small manufacturers need the extra time to prepare, not because the EU wishes to be ‘nice’ to them and let them avoid the requirement, in other words those preparations are happening now in the product line. There is also the issue of RDE. This is the new system that means they have to guarantee their products meet their declared emissions in service and will be measured on customer cars. EU/2018/1832 in force at Jan 1 this year talks about small volume manufacturers being those who sell less than 5,000 in the EU - currently Ferrari, but after PuroSangue maybe not - who are allowed to avoid the cost of RDE testing but must provide information about failures in service of/recalls on the emissions gear on its cars, at which point tests can be required. So they still have to meet RDE’s requirements even if the costs of doing that are mitigated. I know that the UK’s SMMT proposed that RDE testing would be monitoring only for small manufacturers for the first 2 years or so but I’m not sure if that was accepted (2018/1832 is 300+ pages so I confess to not having read it all). Even if it is ‘monitoring only’ does a serious company like Ferrari just choose to ignore it? The whole point is that Ferrari are having to make preparations in their model line up for an increasingly difficult regulatory regime.
Guys, please check 488 Replacement thread for some (unexpected?/great?) news. The updated 488, what we call the "facelift" is to be hybrid!
Don't think the 488 facelift will have some sort of hybridization because Ferrari already announced in September that the two tier rear mid engine range will be fully hybrid only by 2021 ..
My guess regarding the launch date for the BB is the new “Motor Show Festival Terra di Motori” which takes place this may in Modena and replaces the old Bologna Motor Show. https://www.motori.it/eventi/769768/motor-show-festival-terra-di-motori-2019-presentata-la-manifestazione.html
Isnt the 812 superfast just euro6, and the 488 pista as well. They still sell them. For sur the 991 Gt2 Rs is just euro6 and therefore not typ approved after september 2018 because Porsche is a big manufacture (therefor no production of Gt2 Rs for europe). Mclaren 720s is just euro6 aswell the Senna and they still producing and selling in europe I do think small manufacutes will use this paragraph and produce till 2021 with euro6 and then swicht to the new standard. Could be wrong but at least right now it looks like that
It's safe to say that the manufacturers are well aware of emissions regulations coming in a couple years. If they have to meet stringent new standards in 2021, they aren't going to launch products that fail it 2 years from now only to have to change them again. If they launch any products with a shelf life longer than the emissions change timeframe, you can be sure they will meet the requirements ahead of time. Business and investors don't like uncertainty.
I'm no expert by any mean, but why should Ferrari go hybrid for the 488.2? The car shouldn't require a huge bump in terms of power/torque (otherwise you're shooting for the 812SF and that's kinda the goal of the Big Brother). Adding batteries, cables and whatnot obviously means more weight to carry around... Maybe it's necessary for emissions reasons, but again, I'm no expert, so I'll gladly let others explain.
I want Ferrari to name the big brother literally big brother in Italian. They can name it 988 Fratellone. And also name the facelift 498 Fratellino. That means little brother in Italian.
Incorret information. I can confirm that the car in question F142MFL, to be presented in Geneva, it is not hybrid. *If any website wants to use this information, please give credits to the FerrariChat community
That is why I asked the broader community to take a look at those news in 488 Replacement thread. That news suggested that the 488 facelift is to be hybrid. I would just like to see the car. I hope Geneva show will not disappoint us.
My guess for horsepower on this ride is 700 or so. Any less would seriously hurt its market potential
This is a 2 year run car only more like a modifacato. Plus if they do bring on that much horsepower How in the world are they gonna replace it with a V6 hybrid ??
If this car is slower than the Pista, why even make it? Just make the Pistas for a couple of years and then come up with the real replacement. The whole face lift thing is just ridiculous. Go home Ferrari you're drunk.
