Does anyone have a picture of the Ferrari type 047 F1 V10 crankshaft from the 1998 F300? Just about any angle will be fine, I know this is hard stuff to find. Thank you.

That's interesting. Was it on the 049 that the headers were flipped upward? Nice picture, need crank though.

That first shot of the crank looks like it died from oil starvation.

Would you have the 049's pistons/connecting rods/rings to go with that by any chance? Absolutly PERFECT crank pictures BTW.

    First post here,

what are the ports and indentations in the cylinders all about in the engine block?

Great photo's thanks! Would love to see more esp. the combustion chamber and valve seating

Great pictures, I really wish I had been able to get a picture of the F1 engine in the Ferrari store in Roma when I visited. As soon I pulled the camera out the men working the store, literally swarmed the area, telling me I could just take pictures of the car.

    Noob F1 engine question warning.....

Do modern F1 engines use cams, I had always heard they did not due to the high revs. The engine I saw in the store in Roma, looked to be pnuematic. The modern engines are pnuematic correct.

Also, cool to actually see how short the stroke really is.

    Very cool pics!!!!

nothing special in the engine block, cylinder liners are removed so what your seeing is the coolant passages.

they still use camshafts to open the valves and valve springs. The pnuematic system is used for closing the valve and is similar to a traditional cam on tappet engine but the tappet cup is attached to the valve and slides in a hole in the head that that can be sealed and pressurized to apply extreme force to the valve. The really cool thing about the system is that the more the air chamber is compressed the higher the valve closing pressure becomes without spring bounce.

But then again, these could be from a '78 Pinto, and I wouldn't know the difference.

I thought as much but wondered and got a bit alarmed at the alternative possibilities. However, are the cylinder sleeves tube like or double skinned/hollow as it seems to me to have a coolant port exposed for no good reason is odd–would introduce a hot/cold spot. Don't understand the reliefs and the little holes above them, any idea?

I've often wondered about the pneumatic valve mechanism as well and found the following image–scroll all the way to the bottom!

    http://members.atlasf1.com/desmo/

Notice the tappet is two part-hollow-screw together? Does'nt appear to be enough space for thread.

How is the air to the piston timed?

I've heard a commentator say a car 'ran out of air' as it broke down. Are the pneumatics bottle or pump driven? Any URL's/info about pneumatic assisted valve trains appreciated.
