I have noticed reading various posts that I and other 355/348 owners mention that they also own or have owned E46 M3s. Is this my imagination or do more people than you might think who own one of these models also own the other? so if you 355/348 owners own or have owned E46 M3s, let it be known. (Probably it will turn out to be just a couple)
I wanted one but replaced my Audi A3 with another A3 for financial reasons (2 kids in college). I also drive crap loads of miles yearly and didn't want to destroy a M3.
Yeah, never should have sold my E30 M either. Dumba$$!! To the OP, I drive an E36 328is and a 355, but I really want to get an E46 M once work slows down a bit.
I created a BMW thread on this forum a short while ago. There are many Ferrari owners who have BMW's also, including me. Mr. Rob Lay (admin) even said he started FerrariChat because he was looking for a Ferrari alternative to the many BMW forums, but couldn't find one and thus FerrariChat was born. I believe he's a fan of the E36 M3. I am more in to M5s (best car line in the world IMHO), though I am going to buy an E36 M3 this year for track trashing. Straight six in the front, manual gearbox in the middle and RWD, that sounds perfect to me. Hoping to go through first gen E28 M5 to latest F10M M5 over the coming years.
2002 E46M3 SMG here - I am the original owner. I have 115000 miles, mostly trouble free. This car is a great daily driver -- both fun and practical. It's still tight, no squeaks or rattles. I put Blizzaks on it in the winter, and it's nearly unstoppable in snow. It is interesting to me that this was the most "hardcore" BMW of its day, but it still feels soft and loose when driven back-to-back with the 348. - Eric
It is the version of the M3 in production from (I think) MY 2000 thru 2006 or 07. Truly the best all round car I have ever owned.
I have previously owned an e36 M3 and an e46 M3 convertible which I recently sold to fund my purchase of a 456 GT This was so true and in part was the reason I sold the M3, it wasn't quite the same after getting the 348, although I agree wholeheartedy with the following. The 348 isn't quite an "allrounder" and I haven't yet received delivery of my 456 to compare, though I suspect it wont be the "allrounder" the e46 was either.
Yes, the BMW M3. The E46 is the chassis code for the 4th gen 3er and it's the 3rd ///M3 after the E30 and the E36. The E90 sedan and E92 coupe M3 comes next and will be followed by the F80 M3 and F82 M4 will come next and is the first time the ///M version have completely separate chassis code from the non-M 3er. They'll probably be turbocharged and might even be a V6. Yeah I'm kind of a bimmer nut. I have an E36 ///M3 (the neutered American version, unfortunately) and am looking to get a F355 or 360 in the next couple years. I imagine a lot of people have owned both cars because they're both incredible cars. The M3 is the sport coupe by which all other sport coupes are judged. And the V8 Ferraris are the supercars by which all other supercars are judged. Just makes sense to have both.
I own a 355 and an euro e36 m3 which I use for trackdays. The bimmer is a good car, I love it because compared to ferrari parts prices it is dirt cheap in every way, so I can drive the heck out of it with no fear of breaking down something that will make have the car in the garage for long periods of time.
I own a 355 and previously also had a 348, which I sold about 2 months ago. I also sold my '01 E46 M3 about 2 months ago. It was a lightweight (stripped) 6 speed. I loved the car. It was a blast to drive. It was my everyday driver, whch allowed me to keep the Ferraris in the garage while still enjoying a high performance car for my commute. I think if I get another M3, I will get the SMG trans next time.
I have a 355 and an e36 M3. Love them both, but the M3 is actually more fun to drive because it's just so tossable. I never really cared for the newer ones, although an e30 M3 would be great to own. Oddly enough, the previous owner of my 355 had an e46 M3... I think people who like cars simply gravitate toward the M range because they really are that good.
I went with more freeway passing torque for my DD and got a Mercedes Benz C63 AMG. Actually, in fact, I'm on my second C63. M3 is generally a better track car, but I prefer the AMG engine for more "real world" driving.
Had an E46 M3, sold it to buy the Ferrari. I do miss the M3 sometimes but then I walk to the garage and look at the F355 and that quickly cures it.
2006 e46 is my daily driver, 95 355 gts is my weekend ride. 1965 cobra/daytona replica is my project car
Ok, since we are talking BMWs currenty I have a E36 328is, a 2003 Z4 and my 308. I want to replace the Z4 with either a 2008 ZM or a F355. What say you all? Either car will pretty much be driven daily April to October. Am I foolish even dreaming that a 355 can be driven daily without throwing CDELs and other problems?
Dumba$$!! That's right!! That makes three of us.....It's been 15 years since I let her go but I still miss my lil Diamond Black E30 M3 this day.
Oh, and the E36 M3 that replaced my E30 M3 was so crappy I sold her in less than a year and left BMW for good.
The E30 M3 was sold for ... $14K. And, right now, for $14K you can buy a beat up old junk. My e36 M3 at 143,000 miles has more power, more handling, much more reliabillity, and I still miss that E30.
