I think the factory’s have ceramic cores and have the potential to crack/block/overheat. My understanding was the all metal options from a couple vendors out there are the safest/highest longevity option.
If I Only replace the Ypipe with a catless one, would I get any warning lights on a 335 5.2 ? I am thinking to get Nouvalari Catless ypipe Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Not a 355, but for my Scud, I switched from 100 cell HJS cats to straight pipes and the sound changed marginally. Perhaps a 15% bump in volume, that’s about it. Straight pipe still sounds cleaner, but not by my much. I mention this because most Race cats for the 355 are 200 cell. Perhaps a happy medium is 100 cell cats and maybe HJS brand, since they are known to flow well. Fabspeed or Kline can build 100 cell HJS cats for the 355. 100 cell will still give CEL issues unless you get really creative. 200 cell might not give CEL.
my experience is a little imperfect because I was randomly getting a 1448 before I switched to catless y, but it should not generate a code bc high rpm exhaust gas should generate enough heat to easily trigger the probe.
So Tubi itself doesn’t offer any solution to eliminate the CEL light when using their bypass pipe on 5.2? I’m deciding what’s the best and cheapest way to get a better exhaust with the factory cats, Ypipe and first gen Tubi muffler . I thought doing straight pipe will get rid of old and worn out cats and reduces some load on the headers . Is this the right assumption ? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Could you share the details on o2 extender and steel wool you mentioned ? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
https://www.modusperformance.com/products/o2-oxygen-sensor-extender-spacer-extension-m18x1-5-hho-bung-1-75-usa-02-cel-fix?variant=39293698769078¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIqJrompSg9QIVyMqUCR202Qr4EAQYEyABEgKyFfD_BwE Something like this, a straight spacer with pretty rough grade steel wool like single 0. These worked with a high flow cat that was causing cel. I tried 90 deg fabspeed mini cats w my test pipes- but they did not work consistently. https://www.fabspeed.com/universal-o2-spacer-with-catalytic-converter-single/ My next move was to replace the 02 sensors because the wires were pulling at the plug but I learned to live w the cel and just check it every few hundred miles.
You scrub the outside of the extender until they are shiny. Everyone knows that a shiny car works better. OK, just kidding. You stuff the inside of the extender with a small amount of steel wool so that the overall air volume of the thing is smaller.
Wouldn’t the steel wool burn up eventually or it will last for number of years ? Is it just the standard wool you can buy from hardware store ? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Is something like the the right spacer ? https://www.redlineperformance.co.nz/product/o2-oxygen-sensor-spacer-with-mini-cat/ Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
And how much steel wool do I need ? How dense should it be in the spacer ? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
The type you provided a link to comes with a small piece of cat material. It does the job of the steel wool. A lot of folks recommend Big Daddies Garage. They are the steel wool type and contain (quality) steel wool already: http://www.bigdaddiesgarage.com/angled-cel-fix.html For use at the post-cat position only.
Yes indeed . What would be a local product ? Happy to consider all options including a local supplier of test pipes with stock availability and good prices Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
