    Reaching out to the community:

I recently installed new gaskets on the small (4-nut) inspection covers (clearly visible from under car) of the F355 gearbox, and they are leaking worse than before. All surfaces were microscopically clean before application of the gaskets, covers, and nuts.

I tightened nuts to 10 lb-ft, and at this point I fear that I have over-tightened them. If anyone knows the specific torque for these nuts, please let me know.

    Thanks!!

Those small 6mm studs with the nuts on them? 10 ft-lbs is way too much. Try 6 N-m. Don't they have ny-lock nuts anyway?

Thanks for the input. I think you're correct. The nuts are not nylock; they're equipped with crinkle washers. I'm pretty sure I screwed the pooch on this one and now I'm going to pop for new gaskets and do it again!!

I backed off the nuts to "hand-tight" torque, and presto...no more leak!!

    Thanks Yelcab!!

Sometimes when you over-tighten paper gaskets they can leak because the gasket is "squeezed" out. :)

Good to hear it was an easy fix and you didn't have to replace those gaskets. :)

Thanks Pap!! Yep...I think I caught it in time before they took a set. Didn't have to do this one twice like the output shaft seal!!
