I'm slobbering over picking up my new baby which a fresh engine service from IFS in Mass, but one thing if i was to be a perfectionist is THE SHIFT KNOB.. Its showing its age an appears fragmented, cracked, etc.. I've seen this effect on other ppl's car photos..

Any fix, website, etc to recommend where i could get a new one , refinish

    Cheers,

    Chris

I bought the chrome one from Daniel, top notch quality, you will be extremely happy with it.

The carbon fibre unit from ferraricarbon looks great and more modern. Also cooler to touch if you have been in the sun!

You could try a little metal polish, some elbow grease, and see if the old one can be brought back to life.

The OEM shift knob actually has a clear finish on it. The clear finish on my 355 knob was also cracking and partially peeling. I scraped the clear finish off with a razor blade (very time consuming) and polished the knob. It came out quite nice but I wouldn't do it again. I also bought a new knob from Daniel (because I wanted the anodized finish) which would have saved me a LOT of time.

Sorry to resurrect this thread. I did a search but haven't found an answer.

The 1st picture is the shift knob that came with my 355. The car was advertised as having a Titanium shift knob. I actually have no idea what it is.

I want a shift knob that is an exact match to the one that came with the car. I believe a chrome plated shift knob with blacked out numbers and lines came stock from the factory on the car - is this correct?

Now here's the dilemma. On my existing shift knob, the "R" dangles from a straight leg off the gear tree, meaning the indented lines on the knob that go to each number and the "R" are straight lines.

The chrome shift knobs on some sites seem to show the "R" hanging off an slightly indented line. See 2nd photo.

The 3rd and 4th photos are supposedly stock knobs that are used and being resold on eBay. These show the line to the "R" as being straight.

So did the stock knob have the "R" on a straight or indented line?

Oh well, that indented "R" will drive me nuts. It's a shame really, the shift gate itself has the reverse position indented, so one would think the stock shift knob replicated that in its pattern.

I'll pick up a used one on eBay and have it re-chromed.

Anyone know how to reapply the black lines and numbers onto a freshly chromed knob?

BUMP: not sure it was clear in previous posts. from the factory, was the knob polished or did they have a dull finish? mine is dull and has nearly microscopic pit marks. did Ferrari apply a clear coat finish?

From factory it has a satin finish to it applied over the chrome. It marks easily.

I like the look of the earlier black shift knobs. does anyone make one with the correct 6 speed pattern for 355 cars?
I have seen a carbon fiber style (for >$200) but have not found a plain black.

As it turned out it wasn't titanium, it was actually the stock shift ball with it's clear coat worn and the knob tarnished. About 4-5 years ago I had a metal shop polish it up, and it looks good, this one I use as my "every day" shift knob.

I since acquired a new OEM knob with a new nut, which stays in my spare parts box. I also acquired a gold plated stock knob with a gold plated nut, which at some point I want to make an indented "box" in my garage wall with a glass front and a light inside to display. I used it once, the gold looks good against the gray and black interior, but it's more of a display/collectible item.
