When I drove my F355 yesterday, I was unable to get coold air fro the A/C. All the A/C command worked well (fan, temp, position, stop). Furthermore, when I set the temp knob on the highest position (red), I really did got hot air. But with the yesterday high external air temp (around 28°C), I never managed to lower the cabin temperture.

I got the impression that the A/C air was only slightly lowering the inside temp. But nothing compared to the selected temp value.

Furthermore, the days before, I got a "pshhh" noise comming approximately from the two central vent outlets after stoping the engine. I thought about something like the A/C condensator stoping.

All that to say that I felt like Michael after Monza's race yesterday afternoon. :D

What do you think guys? Any idea of the possible cause of the problem?

    Christophe.

Speaking generally rather than about Ferraris, a common cause of A/C not blowing cold is that the refrigerant has leaked out of the system. To determine whether this is the cause you can have it measured to see what pressure is in the system, and have it pressure tested for leaks. A dye can be injected to help determine where it is leaking from.

There are probably loads of other possible causes too...

A quick way to get a rough idea if the refrigerant level is OK is to look at the glass window on top of the dryer/condensor.

The dryer is located next to the washer bottle reservoir under the removable trim cover on the right hand side of the luggage compartment.

It is a black cylindrical object, mounted vertically. On top there is a small circular sight-glass. This should be solid green indicating a full level. If it is dark or you can see bubbles then refrigerant has leaked.

Assuming the refrigerant level/pressure is OK, then the second quick-check is to listen for the A/C clutch engaging.

Set the temperature to MIN (cold) and fan speed to 1, then turn the ignition on to position II (dash lights on), then press the STOP button.

Each time you press STOP you should hear the A/C clutch engaging. It sounds like a big electrical relay clicking. If you don't hear a click (but you do see green in the spy window) then you probably have an electrical issue.

The clicking sound comes from the engine compartment, low on the left-side. Keep the drivers door open to listen for it.

Note that the A/C clutch will not engage if there is insufficient refrigerant pressure.

However, as already mentioned, if you are not sure take the car to a trusted A/C recharge centre for a check-up.

The charge-points are under the carpet panel in the luggage comp.

Thanks to your support and tips on how to check the refrigerant pressure/level, and A/C compressor activity I think that I'm now able to check more precisely what's going-on.

I'll perform the tests on my car when I gonna be back in Geneva in a few days. I'll then post the result.

    Thanks again.

    Christophe.

After a rapid check, I effectively can now say that my A/C system is out of pressure.

I had a look through the sight-glass of the A/C condensator. It was solid dark color. So no more doubt.

Thanks again for your advise which was very helpfull.

    Have a good day.

    Christophe.

Isn't Ferrari and A/C an oxymoron?

I'd doing some "guestimate" of oxymoron meaning as my English 2 French dictionnary translate it to ... oxymoron. Bheu, I haven't that much progressed !!

Could you help me learning a new english word? :)

    Thanks

    Christophe.

A combination of words put together that actually mean the opposite.. for example.... how can you really not like something? either you "really" like it or you "don't" like it...put "really" and "not" together doesn't make any sense. Like "Military Intellegence" or "Postal Service" .. hence "Ferrari A/C" is the oxymoron.
