    Hi guys

I recently purchased a metallic black RHD GTB. Can I ask how do I get to the actuator for the fan which provides air direction. Is it via the front boot (but I can’t see it) or it it under the drivers cluster?

    With great difficulty :D

On a RHD car, the actuator is on the right side of the AC unit in the cabin, around the driver's left knee area. If you move the driver's seat back, you may be able to lie on the floor and reach your arms upwards (after you dislocate your elbows to get them past the pedals). There will be two phillips head screws holding the actuator in. You may have to remove the Window ECU to the right of the actuator to get better access. The plug on the ECU will have to be moved sideways before pulling it down (weird connector latching system). There is only one bolt holding the Window ECU in.

Getting the actuator back in is even more difficult. You may need a boroscope to identify the location of the index mark on the tambour spindle (to match it up with the mark on the actuator). The tambour index mark can be seen at the 12 o'clock position.

The index mark on the actuator may look something like this:

The actuator connector is a friction fit. Not sure why it was designed like that.

Before you fit the new actuator, you might want to check the tambour for freedom of movement. The rubber seals on the tambour can get a bit sticky, putting strain on the new actuator. It should spin through 360 degrees. You will need some kind of square drive to do this (I don't recommend jamming a screwdriver in there as the plastic is soft). Dry lubricant may help with the stickiness, but getting the lubricant on the seals can be quite difficult. Removing the central dash air vent may help. you can also go from below (other vents there).

Don't overtighten the screws on the actuator or the plastic will crack. Thankfully that is not my photo (above). LHD car shown, possibly with passenger airbag removed.
