New Ferrari owner and member here, first post. Recently bought 1997 F355 6 speed spider with factory alarm. All ok for one month. Now I can't get the red light to stay lit so the engine will crank and start. I am using red remote. It locks with one beep. Unlocks with two beeps but the red light on the dash does not stay lit. Tried putting key in ignition in both positions and hitting button. Getting lots of beeps and lights but no combination makes the red dash light stay lit. I have let the car sit and still no luck. Any help here is appreciated.

The red light should go off not stay on. The red FOB is no different than the black except for initial programming.

You may need to replace the battery in the FOB.

Did you actually try to start her or just look for the light, which should have gone out? If it stays lit, then you have a problem.

This is how the dealer explained it to me and how it use to work. The light had to be on solid before trying to start the car. Once solid I would turn the key and it would start and the light would go out and stay off while running. If the light is blinking or off and I turn the key I get nothing, no cranking, no accessory power. Before if the light was blinking and I wanted to start the car, I would push the remote button and the light would go solid with NO chirp from the system.

Are you getting to Check Ok ? If so are you absolutely sure your main battery is not flat ?

Ditto. Could very well be a dead battery. Enough juice to turn on/off the alarm but nowhere near enough to crank.

Update, I changed the battery in the remote, checked all the fuses(all ok) and tried to start again this morning. Same situation. I did leave the car on a trickle charger overnight. This morning it still indicated that the battery was not fully charged so I have attached a 10a automatic style charger. It registered a 6a draw. That seems a little suspect to me. I will let it charge for a few hours and test. At least I now know where the battery is! Wow, doesn't look easy to jump if the need should arise. I am going to buy a new maintenance free style on Monday. What a pain to check water level.

I'm not sure what you're saying for starting the car initially.

When you approach the car the light should be blinking as it will arm itself if you don't.

You press the fob and it beeps twice and the light goes out.

    Start the car.

There are pos/neg poles for charging/jump starting in the engine bay. On the right hand side as you stand behind the car. Exact locations are in the handbook if not obvious.

Be careful jump-starting though, lots of people report problems with airbags afterwards. I've never had an issue but I use a battery pack, not another car, if I ever have to give mine a little helping hand to get going.

I approach the car. It is locked, armed and light on dash is blinking once every two seconds. I push the remote button. The doors unlock, the light on the dash goes off and stays off. Turn key and nothing. Clutch depressed, in neutral, hand brake on. Nothing. The dealer, FOW (Ferrari of Washington) told me the light on the dash had to be lit steady, not blinking at all before the car could be started and that is how it worked in the past. Before if I was sitting in the car and the light was blinking and I wanted to start the car, all I did was push the remote, the light would go solid with NO chirp from the alarm system and it would start. The engine battery is now fully charged and reading 13 volts, so it is not that. This is driving my crazy. Good thing it is snowing outside.

I think I've got it! It's the battery. I just put a jump pack on and it started. Now that it has started and I can see the sequence clearly. I need to clarify the solid light thing. The part I forgot was the light has to be solid when the key is in position II, not 0. If the light is blinking when I have the key in position II, I push the remote and it turns solid, no chirp and car starts. When the battery was low or failing it would not go solid in position II. Thanks for all the comments. I have read many hours worth of posts and I must say its a great forum.
