I thought this would be an interesting post to share. A few months ago we took our F355 down to Raceway park after questioning if the F355 really is a 12.9 1/4 mile car as claimed.

Even though we arrived before the gates opened, I was only able to make 3 passes. Each run was started with a burnout to warm the tires. Air pressure was dropped to 28 psi.

-1st pass rev to 2,000 rpm and slip clutch 14.2 1/4 mile
-2nd pass rev to 3,000 rpm and slip clutch 13.9 1/4 mile

On the first two runs the car would bog at launching then pickup power further down the track. I knew if I could raise the RPM's further upon launching, a 12.9 pass was very possible.

My third and final run, I rev'd to 4,000 rpm and slipped the clutch. My time dropped to 13.5 for the 1/4 mile.

I'm sure a 12.9 run is possible if the clutch is slipped at 5,000 rpm. Drag racing was a fun and different experience in the F355. People were excited to see a Ferrari at the track and we had a great time meeting people. It's very impressive how much abuse this car can take without any signs of weakness.

I'd be interested to see what a 355ch with slicks would do...

You probably just took half the life off the clutch- ferrari's don't have clutches that can take this sort of abuse like a mustang or vette. Heck, it's the only car I know where people seem to be happy if they can get 25,000 miles out of a clutch. There are some that get 60K+ out of the clutches, but at least on here people don't on average seem to get that much. Part of it may be people not matching revs correctly on upshift/downshift given the ligher flywheel that seems to throw off some people, or simply a clutch that is not big enough relative to a Mustang GT or Corvette that can take more tire spinning type of abuse. Even in the 60's I've got road tests where they did the acceleration runs and then said the clutch was toast after a couple of runs- I guess some things are consistent at Ferrari over the decades!

Guess my point is it's cool that you ran the car at englishtown & I find the results interesting, but I wouldn't make a habit of "jackrabbit" type off the line acceleration- on the track or road- as you'll quickly come up to the limit of the "abuse" the car can take (then again, your shop can probably quickly change the clutch at low cost to you- that's a plus vs. someone like me having to pay someone to do it ;) )

You have more then enough mph but it would require a 1.9 sixty foot atleast so you would have to bring it down alot. Good job to taking it to the track. 13.50's is a decent time given the mph. E-towns a bad ass track too.
