-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hi all. have had a couple of small problems over the years with my spider roof, but looking for advise on this seasons one! I had a new canvas roof fitted 18months ago and had a full mechanism service carried out at the same time along with a hydraulic fluid flush and refill. all worked sweet and quiet until last week....hadn't touched the car for a month and left it with the roof up to keep shape of new roof. I went to lower roof in the usual manner; doors shut, engine running, handbrake on, unclipped roof and moved back until the beep ( windows dropped as they should ) then beep beep beep with no movement of the seats. I moved the seats forward as they still move electrically and then popped out the emergency switch....roof goes down and up sweet as a nut...hydraulic levels perfect. so.. I 'm looking for someone whom has had the same problem; is it one of the micro switches or is it a potentiometer? i remember a thread where some very clever member showed very clearly how to repair the potentiometers but i cannot find it; can anyone post a link incase that is the problem? I havn't isolated the battery to 'reboot' as I assume this wont change anything. all help appreciated; another U.K owner has this month posted the identical problem on the 'pistonheads' website so it would be very helpful to both of us. thanks in advance. iain
hi all. further to my ages ago post from above... I assumed it was a potentiometer issue, but was just using the emergency switch for putting the roof up and down and moving the seats forward with the console switches until the car was in for the big service at the main dealer in dec 2015 where they could have a detailed look as the nov 2014 service was just a short and sweet annual. anyways, although they priced me for a new potentiometer, upon diagnosing it was the drivers seat causing the issue and removing it, they disconnected all the connections, cleaned them up and hey presto that was all it needed....and they only charged me an hours labour which was a tad cheaper, although it would of been cheaper still if I had of managed to find time to do it myself...however mucho happy as they could of fitted a new potentiometer as priced and I would be none the wiser. anyways, if anyone has the same symptoms as I have indicated in my first post, it may be an ever easier fix than you think. hope this may be of help. regards.
