I searched and it looks like there hasn't been a challenge grill thread in a few years... I've owned my car for 15 years now, and as part of a complete interior plastic refresh I'm having done at Automotive Restoration at the moment was thinking now would be a good time to try out a challenge grill. Looks like the part number is 65511400, anyone have any sources for OEM stock? Not concerned with price, just want a perfect part. Have heard that a new run of parts from Ferrari left a lot to be desired, any insight? Any knowledge on steel vs aluminum? What about how to avoid buying an aftermarket piece? Thanks in advance for the help
I bought one from them a couple years back, can't imagine it's not OEM. Certainly the box it came in was taped up with official-looking "Genuine Ferrari" yellow tape, if that counts.
Not recently, but that is where mine came from (several years ago) and I was very pleased. I would try and contact them.
Thanks for the feedback. I reached out to Eurospares, they said it's OEM, so I bough one for $1k. Also just bought another one from Ferrari of New England for $3k. I'll report back on if they're the same quality, and at least I'll have one to hang on the garage wall.
My Challenge grill is aluminum. It was developed and installed in 1995 prior to their availability as an option on road cars. The original aluminum F355 Challenge grill was Part Number 65083400. It was superceded by P/N 65511400 which reflected the switch to steel. Here are some pictures of my car. The first one was taken during testing in early 1995. Note the prototype Challenge exhaust with its three outlets, two of which were scorching the paint on the rear valance. The second is a picture of my car today with its early aluminum Challenge grill... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
As a follow-up to this thread, received both grills in, one from Eurospares, one from Ferrari of New England, same part number. Inspected them closely and they're identical, see attached. Assuming the install goes well I'll be selling one, and I'm happy to sell whichever one's left for what I paid from Eurospares, and anyone that buys it doesn't have to pay for shipping from Europe -- my OCD is your gain!
