On my 95 F355 with 28,000 miles, the check engine light on cylinders 1-4 went on for 2 sec when I accelerated hard. I am running test pipes so it is not the cats. Car runs to redline no problem and starts no problem. Is it just a computer glitch, could it be the headers going? Should I be worried? Thanks

Are you sure it was the check engine light and not the slow-down light ?

I'm sure it was the check engine light 1-4. I am running without cats so it would not be the slow down light since I don't have the temp sensors in. I have a set of hyper-flow cats that I am going to install next week.

    LA for now,NJ really
when my check engine light came on it was bad cats that was replaced under warranty... but you said it couldn't be that. The light would go on and off and finally stayed on until I brought it to WWOC.

(Even though you don't have cats) If the O2 sensor gives an unexpected signal to the injection ECU, I believe this would cause that bank's check engine light to come on.

Was it a one-time occurrance? (i.e., if not a steady or recurring thing I wouldn't worry about it too much -- although one can probably argue that all stock 355 headers are in the process of "going" ;))

If you remove the cats - wouldn't the light be on all the time - since you would not have the exaust vaccum tube connected (unless you connected it depends on what make you bought for your test pipes - some people just plug the tube end - or if you have it connected - the engine light may likely come on since it will be getting readings from emission sensors/ECU.

To summarize - with no cats - you may get this light on on occasion. (I read my response above - and I am not sure what the hell I just said :)

If it is a 95 USA model it has 2.7 system. There are push buttons adjacent to the ecus that will cause the dash light to flash out all stored codes. Procedure is in the WSM.

I have the 2.7 with one O2 sensor per exhaust. I think with the OBDll you would get the check engine light because of the two O2 sensors per exhaust.
This was a one time thing that the check engine light coming on, so I guess I will wait and see what happens.

Yes, I just realized my mistake and was editing my post when you posted (I was wrongly looking at a later F355 OM).
