I bought an F355 whose interior was mostly disassembled. I am trying to put the shifter gate in place and it won't fit. The switch plate will not go all the way down to touch the aluminum shifter housing. I think I have the console down all the way. The two screws in the front and 2 in the back that hold the whole console down are screwed down all the way and the console is resting comfortably on the carpet. I believe I have the switch plate seated in the console properly but I have a gap of about 3/8 of an inch. I can't imagine the shifter gate screws sucking the gate/switch plate down that far. I don't have the screws at the moment but I do have some on order. Is there supposed to be some sort of spacer between the shifter housing and the switch plate?

Look at parts diagram, you are missing the rubber gasket

Yes, but the rubber gasket is as thin as paper, wont make much of a difference in his case. The plastic cover should fit with zero force, it should simply just fall into place. Something is off...

No, not thin as paper. It's nearly 1/2" thick

Sweet! Thank you so much for the info. That solves the riddle. I guess I'll get the spacer :)

We keep those things in stock. I'm not sure its 1/2 inch thick -- but likely closer to 1/4". Hard plastiky/rubber construction. I describe it as a spacer, more than a "gasket".

I'll get a picture of it this weekend and try to put it up on the site to help with future inquiries.

I stand corrected (-; my mind automatically went to the rubber protective boot on the 348s.
