Will dumping the CATS and going for test pipes with a factory fit exhaust make much difference? Can I take it to my local ATS to change or do I have to ship it onto the specialist?
Paul they'll make it a bit louder and give you a very small rise in hp (although the extra noise makes it seem alot quicker!) its actually a reasonably easy job to do, so you may want to give it a go yourself (my local quickfit / ats wont do it due to EU law on removing cats)
If you make the swap yourself without air powered tools, I suggest you spray the exhaust bolts with nut penetrant (PB Blaster, or whatever you have in the UK) the night BEFORE you do the removal. Exhaust stuff gets pretty rusty and frozen over time. The nut penetrant with a few hours to soak into the threads will make the job much easier.
Just did test pipes on my 98 f355 with Tubi exhaust. The sound is amazing real aggressive harmonic tones!!!! Made me sweat my toy again......Please beware on buying your test pipes fitment issues......
Yellow355 - Have you had problems with the check engine light? Your 98 would be OBDII, which should set the CEL if it's not seeing a difference between the fore and aft oxygen sensors. If yours doesn't, I'd be curious to know about it as this is why I have not done test pipes on my 98 car. 95 cars have no issue with this as they are not OBDII.
I've asked a few dealers about this and also a couple of owners who've decatted and they seem to think there's no problems with the check engine light.
CGPERRY I have a check engine light on the code was from a spent cat temp ecu. I will be turning the light off to see now that the cats are removed what happens.......Were you in the thread were somone indicated about an O2 sensor bypass?????
