Standing almost still idling in a longlasting que is not what my engine likes. Water temp goes up over the psychological 12 o'clock position. When driving all is ok, but in long ques... not. Anyone experiencing similar?

Check both your cooling fans are working. Had similar and the left hand fan had failed.

I suspect my left fan too as it did not run today even if engine was hot. The right run like a maniac.

Check the fuse in the passenger footwell. There is a fuse for each fan. If its gone, replace it and start shopping for a new fan as yours is creating resistance and will soon do damage to that same fuse box. If the fuse is ok, check the sensor on the top of the radiator.

I would also re-bleed the cooling system to make sure there isn't any air in it.

    Klas,

Check the temp sensor to the RHS of the oil filter (pale blue colour) as well as the temp sensor on the top of the LHS radiator first. I had the same issue and sorted it relatively inexpensively.

Tjolohölm queues will test a cooling system ;)

The temp switch on top of the LHS radiator is a Fiat Ritmo 75 series 1, and Opel(Vauxhall) Calibra 2.0 part, any car part shop can order it for around 15 euro.

Thanks for good advices. Should both fans always run together? Acc. to owners manual I read it like that. If so, it should mean that if the LH fan does not run when the RH does, then it's the LH fan that fails.

...if the LH fan fuse is ok of course.

If it does end up being your LH fan ( mine was bad ), then you can source them for pretty cheap. It's a generic fan and there are a ton of old threads on the part number.

Installation is less than 45 minutes taking your time. Just need to remove LH rear wheel and fender liner. Would be best just to replace both. You will be amazed how much smoother and how much more air the new non-worn out fans push compared to the 20 year old worn out parts.

Looks easy. Any advice of replacement fan supplier with the right electrical connector socket? Btw, both my 30A fuses are ok. Just checked them.

No. They switch on at different temperatures.

I got mine from the Fan Man in Southern California. It's a Spal fan.

Ok, but how is that possible with only one temp switch in the system?

Good, and is it the same connector type? Just plug-n-play?

The left fan is triggered directly by a thermal switch.

The right fan is controlled by the ECU, which sees coolant temperature from a different thermistor.

If your fans are original and have failed, replace them with SPAL P/N 30102050 which has the updated sealed motor. SPAL sells them directly, but The Fan Man may have them for cheaper.

Yes, it is the same. plug and play (most important is to check the temp range. Others will look the same, but have a higher temp range. The described one is identical) .
You only need to remove the Left rear wheel, remove the part of the inner wheel well (4 screws) and then you have direct acces to the radiator. The switch sits on top. You will need a medium size open wrench to unscrew it (forgot the size, like 25 mm or so), but it normally is not screwed very tight.

Cured my problem yesterday with the late start of the left fan. It was the temp. switch. Now the fan goes on as intended.
