I have had my 355-5 speed in the shop 4 times due to engine light on. I have repalced CATS, tubis, sensors. Any come accross this or suggestions on why the light keeps coming on.

There are many threads on this forum about CELs, and a great deal of information about diagnosis and causes. We'll need more details about your car, how it's equipped, and the circumstances under which the lights come on. Also, if you can tell us what the shoop has told you about the cause that might help too. Tell us:
    Year model
    Exhaust if other than stock
    Running temperature
How you're driving when it comes on
    Does it flash?
Does it go away or stay on?
Come on immediately when you start it?
Any other info you can provide.
    Codes on OBD2 reader?

    Hi Bruce:

Nice to hear from you - please my responses below.

I bought this 1997 F355 - 6 speed from a dealer, had all guides replaced, and two soft top motors (behind seats). Ran the car for 6 months and a connecting rod bolt blew out the block. Put an engine it w/ 9K miles and ran perfect for 6 months. Light went on and replaced sensors. 3 months later - light on and a forgot what it needed but fixed minor issue. 4 months later light on and just put 2 new CATS. Light now back on and sending back to dealer (Ft. LAuderdale Ferrari). My mechanics closed their shop and went to work for dealer. They were the best - oh well.

    See below:

Running temperature Before it went in for CATS it was hot 270 Deg.
How you're driving when it comes on I drive VERY conservative, maybe going 70MPH
Does it flash? No - every time it went on it stays, and needs computer to turn off
Does it go away or stay on? Always stays on - I do remember the "slow down" has also gone on before - but turns itself off.
Come on immediately when you start it? Yes - now that is went on Friday night it permanently stays on
Any other info you can provide. Other than very frustrated - no
Codes on OBD2 reader Will let you know

Thanks much - appreciate your comments

I saw you are in RE bus - me to

Were the "new cats" oem or aftermarket?

And of course, we need to know what the P codes are that are tripping the "check engine" light.

Might be worth it, for you to own your own OBDII code reader, they are very inexpensive. If you own a laptop, you can buy a connecting cord and software for less than $15 on Ebay.

    Thanks

I think we should wait for more information before going to the "shotgun" approach to a solution. The kit is excellent (and recommended), and can solve many issues, but I hate to recommend that, if he has a more obvious problem that needs to be resolve first.

The cats were brand new (Tubi) from the dealer $3K - their cost.

I'll wait to see what the computer says.

    Thanks much

Just a guess, but I suspect you will have codes for "low catalyst efficiency". Seems consistent on this forum that aftermarket cats on the F355 will throw these codes. Sometimes immediately upon installation, other times after a year or two of use. Happened to me, I am back to using oem catalysts. My local dealer says the Motronic on the F355 has the parameters set very tightly.
