    Hello All,

My 99 355 F1 is having a wierd issue this spring. Sometimes it just doesn't want to go into first gear(or any other forward gear - reverse always works). It always clears itself up, but it can take 30 -45 seconds and gets a bit embarrassing when at an intersection.

When it finds first all other shifting is sharp and precise. No issues going up/down. It seems to happen most often when I am slowing down and I put into neutral to stop. Sometimes, it just won't engage first when I want it to.

    Any thoughts????

    Thanks in adavance!

You might try having the actuators serviced. They are adjustable and it sounds like one of yours (1st gear) isn't adjusted properly. Just a guess but I'm sure you'll get other responses from the board as well. I've never had this specific problem but I have had the actuators serviced as part of the regular maintenance of the car.

I had the same problem; I still need to have the clutch done, but start it up once a week to keep things moving. 2 wks ago same issue, took me 5-6 requests to get 1st. R worked every time. Had it out a few times since then and it hasn't happened again...

You also might want to replace the F1 fluid. My 355 had similar problems that were discovered during the test drive and the PPI. My mechanic ended up replacing the return tube from the reservoir to pump assembly (almost always gets a kink which affects the fluid from flowing properly). Of course after replacing the fluid, you will also have to bleed the system.
