I think you will have to be more specific.

Will not select gear when? Does the pump prime? Does it give you an error light?

So you disarm the alarm, slip the key in and it starts? That would certainly not be normal.

I can't address the starting issue but the gear selection issue is normally due to one of the bonnets not being completely closed. Try opening both the front and rear and then reclosing them. If that doesn't do it then check the sensor. For some reason, the rear seems to get knocked out of alignment before the front one. Best of luck.

    1) Welcome to ferrarichat

    2) Please fill out your profile

    3) Start by checking the relay for the F1 pump, then the gear position sensor, then check the speedometer sending unit

    4) Run a search of the archives for your problem, that's how I found the answers I gave you on #3 ;)

Many thanks guys , this is a car that i sold to a friend that lives next door to me. i sold the car over 18 months ago and it had no problems for the 4 years i had it and for the past 18 months my friend had it. But on Sunday while he parked it and went into the shop came out and it would not go into gear. It looks like its an electricly problem but i am not sure. There are no indication lights coming on the dash to say there is a problem. the car will start ok , but it was starting without turning the key.

Well, that sure sounds like a defective ignition switch
