Probably already discussed here but I just came across a F355 Fiorano on eBay with an asking price of $299,888! I know that they are limited production but that number is in the stratosphere. There is another Fiorano listed at $169,800.

Are we seeing a rise in 355 prices? Several others - GTB, GTS & Spiders around the $100K+/- asking mark. Prices are close to par with the 360.

I'm thinking about listing my '98 spider for $149,000 just to boost the market. Anyone with me? We put 4 - 5 on ebay in that range and watch the whole market jump.

No, I'm afraid someone might buy it for the ask and then I'd have to back out.

I think the $299k fiorano makes the $149k fiorano look cheap, and maybe intentionally so....

None of them are selling... That said, 993 prices have skyrocketed. There more of them made, 355 is superior, faster, and was more admired back in the day. The 355 will eventual catch the 993 turbo in my opinion.

We had a large family in our neighborhood. Five separate homes. They all listed their homes for sale at $100,000 over the existing market prices. Guess what happened. One of them sold and the market price for the neighborhood changed.
I guess if a number of cars are priced high they just might bring the market up.
    Perception is reality.

Superior in what aspect? The Porsche is the faster car and arguably the better car. The 355 is the better looking by a long run.

    as per Wiki:

For 1999, Ferrari introduced a limited production of F355 Spider models designated, "Serie Fiorano" Launched in March, 1999, this limited production run of 100 planned units (104 actually produced) included a number of performance enhancements:

Competizione-derived Fiorano suspension pack, featuring wide track, stiffer springs, a thicker anti-roll bar
Drilled and ventilated brake discs and competition brake pads
    Competizione-sourced steering rack
Challenge rear grilles and enamelled Scuderia Ferrari shields
Carbon-fibre inserts (normally only available as expensive special order options): centre console, door sills and paddle shifters
    Suede-covered steering wheel
There were 100 Serie Fiorano units delivered to the U.S. market, 74 with the F1 transmission and 26 with the 6-speed manual. An additional 4 units were produced beyond the planned production with 3 European models and one South African delivery. Each unit was delivered with a numbered plaque affixed to the dashboard.

Here's how lots of cars get listed for exorbitant prices:

"Honey, if you'll let me buy that xxxxxx, I'll sell the Ferrari!"

    Flash forward 2 years:

"Gosh honey, I guess nobody's gonna buy the Ferrari. We'll just have to keep it and xxxxx too if nobody's going to buy it. I guess the market is just dead!" :D

Yes, the Porsche is faster but is it 5 times the car?
Some 993 turbos are asking $400k.

Yes..it is 5 times the car. Maybe even more so. Speed isn't everything either. The build quality of the Porsche makes the Ferrari look like a lada. The durability of the Porsche is 10 times that of the Ferrari. The Porsche is built like a bank vault where as the Ferrari is built like a lace thong..

All but a small handful of the Fiorano's had the F1 transmission.

What if you took a F1 Fiorano and converted it to 3 pedal? Would it be considered a "bastard" and tank the value of it or do you think the value would go up?

Before I bought my 355 I wanted a 993 Turbo. Then the prices skyrocketed and I missed the boat. I "settled" for my 355. As happy as I am with the 355, the 993 Turbo is a much more "drivable" car...but the 355 is much more exciting.

You obviously have not experienced the car from a service and reliability stand point. Please show me a stickie interior in a Porsche? Please show me a 5k clutch job? Or 10k belt services?

Please show me a worn out seat in a Porsche with less then 30k miles? Please show me a warped dash in a Porsche?

Before anyone on here starts on a Porsche go drive one. As they say "Ther is no substitute " My 355 spider is alot of fun to drive and it looks fantastic but my 911 is a much better car. The new Porsches are great cars that you can use every day. The 355 is just a blast to drive and is one of those cars that everyone should have in their collection.

    Eh?
Who buys a Ferrari from a service and reliability stand point?
Only a Porsche fan would make that statement.

My view re the Serie Fiorano is that it's a massive shame they are all Spiders.
I wish Ferrari had made some in Berlinetta and GTS guise.

The $169k Fiorano has been for sale since April or May.

Historically, when Ferraris come in coupe and spider models the spiders are more valuable. Examples are the Daytona, the 250 GT. There are exceptions, for example, when coupes were much rarer than spiders, or special bodied cars with race history..... I'm confident that sooner of later 355s will go the same route. The 355 GTB craze will pass and the rarer spider will prevail. You should be buying up 355 spiders while they are still reasonable priced. :)

I'm a Porsche fan as much any. I love Porsches and owned numerous Porsches. Actively searching for a 964/993 right now. I test drove 993 c4 just few days ago.
Stickies happen in Porsches. Not to the extend of a Ferrari. I knew it was problem it didnt stop me from buying the car. It can be resolved with little $$, dash cracks happen in almost every older Porsche(I have one now that will go get re wrapped), etc. don't make it sound like the Porsche is a Honda or a Toyota.
    $5k for a clutch, $10k for major??
    Why exaggerate?
This isn't my first Ferrari. I've done majors, I've done clutches.
    Porsche and Ferrari simply different?
Love them for different reasons. But the statement 993t 5 times 355 is laughable... Even more laughable is if you can buy a nice 355b for $80k the 993t for $200-400k
If you could only own one for me hands down it would have been the 355 over 993t.

By that criteria, a Camry is an even more valuable car.

Nobody buys a Ferrari for its cost effectiveness or performance for the dollar. No matter which ferrari model you choose, there is a less expensive car that is faster.

That completely misses the point, though.
