Greetings. Recently I purchased the floor mat eyelet kit 063698100 to undertake a repair on a F355 Drivers floor mat. However the trimmer tells me he doesn't have the correct oval eyelet press tool to do the job. The Ferrari dealer is also at a loss to explain why they sell the parts but not the tool. It doesn't look like a simple tool as when you examine the rear of the floor mat you can see the tool acutally splinters the 'top hat' into small square teeth that fold over and complete the pressing.. Can anyone help me locate the proper tool to revive my ailing floor carpets..? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I would just cut the eyelet with side cutters to create the incisions. Then use a rubber dead blow hammer with a wooden backing plate behind the matt, hammer the eyelet to flatten it down and secure it.
It's been a while since I did this but I believe I did a variation of the above except carefully using pliers to flatten down the 'petals' of the eyelet instead of a hammer.
Ricambi has a kit with a slightly different style of eyelet that has metal prongs which are easier to bend over. While not strictly original they work well and may not be noticeable.
What I am at a loss about is how the 'petals' come about in the first place.. On the original top hat section they don't exist..? They must be formed by the pressing some how.. But they are all evenly spaced.. Reason im asking is that I am considering making a die.. Does anyone know what the original ferrari die tool looked like or should look like...?
As Elliott stated, would appear they are cut/snipped. If you made a die they would certainly split when folded over but not in perfectly equal locations as shown.
If you have a boat canvas repair shop local they may have what you need. Just a thought from an old sailor.
just google turnbuckle fastener. Loads out there which you can just press through the carpet with your hand and then bend the tabs with some pliers.
