    Does the 355 6 speed gearbox have the "hidden" filter screen as the 348 5 speed box? the service manual mentions one, a "screen" I believe, but does not show its location.

    Not sure what screen your referring to but the ds cover on the GB where the oil line runs has a small scree in there.

    Should I have changed that last time I changed the fluid? if so, is it an easy process?

    The only thing that screen does is keep big bits from getting into the oil pump. That and you have to remove the side cover to get to it, which is almost impossible to do with the gearbox in the car. The studs are really long and the side cover will hit the subframe preventing it from coming off. So no, it's not an easy process.
