Folks.. just wondering what all these numbers on my gearbox are.. Gearbox Numbers 215(?)45(?)99 / 174037 / 68(88?) with 3 dots / 421 Is the 421 the serial number used when ordering parts? Thanks! Cheers Ian.
I have never need to order internal gearbox parts so not sure of the necessity to know that number. But maybe. Historically, when you need parts the VIN or Assy Number are the telling details of the build. Others will have a better answer I am sure
Thanks, Watson. I found something nasty on my gearbox magplug a few days ago... some large gear chunks and lots of smaller pieces (but bigger than the average "fur"). I was just wondering what the prices of gearbox parts were like, and noticed on the Ricambi site that the part numbers required depended on gearbox numbers. I did my first gearbox oil change last week (after two years of ownership, but only 800km/500mi driving). The oil was disturbingly black (a major had been done by the PO only a few months before I bought it). I had a PPI inspection done on the car before I bought it and I'm starting to think they didn't even bother pulling the magplug. I know the way I've driven my car certainly wouldn't cause this kind of damage. I'm thinking of pulling the covers off the gearbox sump to see if there aren't any other bits floating around. Speaking of which, are the sumps designed so that all pieces will eventually end up on the magplug, or might this just be a sample? I wasn't indending to have a major done for another two or three years (I assume a gearbox overhaul will require an engine out?). Would these covers give me a full view of all the gears. Would the shape of the pieces give a gearbox specialist some idea of which gears might be broken? I'm just hoping the pump filters have stopped the debris circulating through the pump and back through the gears. Never have had any luck with old sportscars... Cheers Ian
I think I've found the answer in the manual.. Gearbox serial numbers The serial number is on the right side of the small circular marking on the casing. On that same picture, I'm wondering what those two bolts are on the casing. I can't find them in the parts manual. I see I have some damage to these bolts, probably from ground impact. Thanks Cheers Ian.
Looks like those two bolts are something I shouldn't touch.... I don't think they're captive. Transmission Rockers
Seems the 348 has those bolts, too... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355-sponsored-bradan/82936-348-uh-oh-loosened-wrong-bolt.html
