I've got the earlier screwed together piece, but imo it's completely immaterial. If anything it was probably a cost saving measure.

We must not be talking about the same part. The later part absolutely is a nicer piece and costs more to fabricate and paint than the rubber weather strip type piece.

    Here is the later part

But you pay a hefty price for those rivets. The 2.7 (95) piece is $23.15 The 5.2 piece is $123.64.

If I were worried about mine coming off a little super glue with fix that.

Nicer? Eye of the beholder. The rubber trim piece won't get scratched or bent from leaning over the back of the car while tending to the engine/trans.

Plus, on track days you can pull the rubber piece off to save weight and go faster. :)

To be honest, I've always taken notice to that crappy piece - it sticks out like a sore dick in a whore house :)

Obviously, they made a change for a reason :)

    Lol!

I did not set out for a 95. But, it is cool to have a 95 and a 98. But, I'd prefer to have 2 99's as I prefer young woman :)

    And here endeth the lesson.

Despite knowing that improvements were made throughout the production run (as with virtually every mechanical thing known to man)

...We'll continue to pretend that the original was the best....

Steve, I fully agree. It's not a bash to the 95 in anyway yet some just cannot accept that improvements where made.

Heh you guys should review the evolution of the 348 if you want to witness model changes through a 7-year factory life. There is so little similar between the 1989 and 1995 cars it's amazing they're the same car. Throw in the various niche models for some real variation - serie speciale I and II, challenge, competizione. We can compare 2 cars from the same year and find at least 3 differences. In fact I can't remember ever seeing 2 348's that were the same. That's the fun thing about limited production hand built cars.

    I agree Dave.

The later year piece is a much nicer design than on my '95 - which is one of the only pieces on the car that looks sloppy...

Did you go with factory cat or aftermarket?

What about the CEL? Was it in fact disabled?

Fit and finish varies car to car, regardless of year. It is pretty dam good on my 95 car.

That trim piece does look better. Can it be fitted to a 95?

Ok John, my friend, Ferrari not only nailed the design of the 355 from day one, the production process was perfected after the first car was built. Why in the world would I ever expect that improvements were made in design or production after they gained experience

This looks like a must for my spider as her top is almost always down.

    Thanks!

Hey Dave, let not confuse fit and finish with improvements/changes in other areas. Take a look at a few 458s or F12s coming off the line. You will see that fit and finish still vary significantly car to car. Particularly finish. I didn't say changes in production were not made along the way. But not all of those changes were steps forward either, eg the switch to the single MAF on the 96 and later cars. You will note that with the 360 they went back to separate MAFs and still have today on both V8 and V12 cars.

Most mfgs. do make improvements over the production run, however it seemed to have eluded Ferrari evidenced by ongoing header problems, valve guide issues, sticky parts, shrinking leather which seemed to continue throughout the production run. It even continued with the newer models.
