Here are my headers from Stainless Headers. They were built using 16 gauge 1.625" tube 321 s/s, 4-2-1 design (OEM). Tubes are mandrel bent and are tig purge welded. OEM heat shields were modified due to the slightly bigger primary tubes and the way the shield was cut off(it wasn't cut on the seam). The shields were cut off from a previous owner since this is a second set that I purchased to be used for this project and to spare the headers on my car. A 3/16" double sided insulation with aluminum sandwiched between the insulation was placed on both sides of the shields. The insulation is used on turbo applications. These headers could also be built in 16 gauge 304 s/s. The 321 s/s header cost is $2800. Add $250 for air rails. Add $650 for modified OEM heat shields with the insulation. The 304 s/s header costs $2300. Add $250 for air rails and $650 for modified OEM heat shields with insulation. Chris has been great to deal with. He addressed all my requests. When I started this project I wanted them to look like OEM headers but with significantly better materials and build quality. I would like to thank Chris Stepp for building a great header at a great price and all the FChat Members who have contributed to all the different exhaust threads over the years. :)

Thanks guys. I just got them today. I will install them when I do my major along with the high flow cats from Evoflow(prospeed prestige) and a unrestricted secondary bypass pipe. I have one from Bradan but am considering modifying an OEM to keep the factory look. Here are a few pics of what the shields used to look like before they cleaned and modified them. As you can see they were not cut on the seam and were in rough shape which made more work for them. The bottom picture is after cleaning and in the process of making a new seam.

Hi Tim, the time frame was ~ 6 months. Some of that was because they had to special order the 1.625 321 s/s. They had 1.75 in stock but I wanted to keep the tube size closer to OEM. Chris ordered a shrinker/stretcher to modify the OEM shields and had to wait for that tool to arrive. I also had them install bungs in the primary tubes, as well as making connectors between the header flange to keep it like the factory. I also had told him that I wasn't in a rush and living in the Northeast I wasn't going to need them right away. He addressed all my requests. All these things added time, but to me it was well worth the wait. ;)

Wow! Nice work. I love that the end result looks so close to original. Also nice that they are 4 into 2 into 1.

Jim, does the buyer have to source the OEM shields themselves?

    Good idea on the size.

Does he have the Jig made where he does not need a set of headers as a mule to get started?

Hi Bob, I had purchased a second set of 95 2.7 headers off of Bradan. These came with heat shields but were not attached to the headers. I wanted to keep my OEM headers intact. If you chose to go in this direction you could always purchase a second set of headers with shields like I did or if you still have the OEM headers, use the shields off of those. Having the shields still attached might save Chris alot of time. Just in case that you didn't notice, when these shields were cut off, they weren't cut on the seam which meant alot more time with fabrication. Zack who is one of Chris's fabricators spent alot of time modifying the seam to mate with the other shell.

Thanks Ernie. I wish I could take credit for it, but I got that idea from you and Bruce (BCWAWRIGHT) when the both of you built your headers.;)
