321 are now $3000 and $500 for heat shields!

Also said today 6/18/14 said it would be months before they could make some.

Hay Jim, the headers and cats look great. I was wondering who did your major? Earlier in the post you mentioned the name John. Is that John from G&A? My car is due for a major and I am looking for a shop in the area.

Keith you are correct John(Giovanni) from G & A in E. Longmeadow. He has another one in there now that he is working on. Give him a call. John is a great guy, great to deal with also. He works on some of my other cars as well.

Johnny, I had spoke to Chris a little while ago, and he said that they were very busy so what you are stating makes sense. The price of the 321 went up a little, but it looks like Chris decreased the price for modifying the heat shields.

I recently read a post by Drock about Stainless Headers header offerings so I contacted Chris Stepp. He told me that he sold the fabrication part of his business to Zack and Kevin, two fabricators that worked for him. Zack built my headers and did the modifications to my heat shields. Their company is GP Headers. I asked Zack what type of s/s they are going to use. They are building them in 321 s/s for $2200. They are going to reuse the parts that they can such as the flange that bolts to the heads.

$2200 is a heck of a deal for a 321ss. OEM flange or not. If i wasn't going custom, i'd be on this wid da quickness.

    These headers look great.
I'm guessing that the $2200 price does not include the clam shell heat shields (?).

yes I also spoke to Zack yesterday.
$2200 buys you a set of their headers coated
    using 16gage and 321ss
they reuse certain parts of your existing headers.
therefore if you are not local requires you to ship your set to them.
they no longer use the clamshell shields too much labour/work.
that's why they got the price down to $2200.

so in the end you still have a bare header but coated at least.
and then have to use other alternatives to keep the heat down etc.

I don't want to put any words in Zack's mouth but I got the sense that he still might be open to the idea of putting the clam shells back on if the customer really wanted them, although I could be wrong on this. I just got that impression from our conversation.

I don't know about that. They have built more headers than just mine, but how exact they are compared to mine, I have no idea. :)

Cut shields off before sending the headers, then re-install when you get them back if you want them. You could have the insides of the shields coated while the headers are off for fabrication to help them keep even more heat in.

To put things into perspective. No other header mfg. big or small is offering a 4-2-1 header built in 321 s/s let alone 304 s/s for that price. When I was looking for a company to build my headers the next closest quote was ~ $5000 from a quality builder. Two other places gave me quotes that started at $6500 and up for 321 s/s. One bigger company would build them for ~$7500 in 316 s/s. That was just for the headers. There was no mention from these other companies about coming with a coating or any type of heat shield.

Jim, I just wanted to say hats off to you for developing this alternate source for headers, even if their business changed hands recently. You were F355 customer #1 for Stainless Steel Headers, and that came with some risk I am sure.

I think I gave you a hard time years ago when you first joined the forum and were looking at some off-brand cats. If that was you, I apologize. Someone always has to be the first guy to lay out the bucks and take a chance, and you proved it here.

it is interesting deal no doubt.

but the rebuild service via Ricambi (by JP ) is a full rebuild of tubing with 304.
    and retaining clamshells.
$2700 all in. this includes prepaid to ship your set in and new set back.

They are not offering a fully rebuilt header, just the primary tubes. The original collector is still used along with OEM flanges. I think they do a nice job. I did not want a partially rebuilt header. I wanted the whole header retubed(primary tubes and collector). I had emailed a very nice gentleman at JP Exhaust about doing this, they seemed interested in my request but I ended up going with Stainless Headers in the end. JP was my next option.

Greg, whatever risk there was I felt was worth it. I had read tons of header threads over the years, before I had ever even owned my car. The general consensus was if someone could build an OEM header with proper shielding and better materials that was relatively affordable that would be a win-win situation for the owners. I spoke with and emailed quite a few different companies before I settled on one. I had heard about Stainless Headers from a gentlemen on the GT40's site who was very pleased with their work. His GT40 was hand built to exact specifications in Europe(not cheap) so if he was happy, I wasn't to worried. Chris seemed up for the challenge. I told him exactly what I was looking for and why and he met my requests. They are a stand up company so that took some of the risk and fear out of the picture.

As stated previously Zack is the one who built my headers and is now one of the owners of GP Headers.

As far as the cats I ended going with Evoflow(Prospeed Prestige). Brian Dinn is or was a sponsor on here is the owner. The price was reasonable. The product looked to be nicely made so I took a chance.

THIS. I don't know how many times this has to be repeated. 321 is superior and preferred over 304. It is also significantly more expensive. Just look at the damn prices on Burns Stainless. $2200 is at least $500 cheaper than the competition. AND it comes coated too??? What does a header company need to do to earn your business? Install it for you too? Have someone else remove and reinstall the shields if you want it that bad.

A 321 ss header from Hytech for a 4 banger is anywhere from $1200-1500 NON coated.

If you want a reliable header from a reputable company with more focus on top end power. Fabspeed.

Jimmym. Do you think there is a way these headers can be setup so they can be easily removed/installed ? Slip-fit? V-band clamps in key areas? This is one of the reasons I am going custom.
