Does the striker release completely?

  1. Yes, the hood requires no assistance to open after pulling the lever.

  2. No, it pops up and the hood must be manually released from outside after pulling the lever.

Does it completely release the lid once you pull the hood lever inside or does it pop up a bit and require a slight pull to allow it to float open?

I previously had it adjusted (using the couple screws on the striker) to require a slight tug to release. Recently, after replacing the previously lazy gas struts, I decided to adjust the striker to completely release after pulling the lever inside. This is cool since the hood floats open unassisted when you pull the lever. This is great when the engine temp is cold. The trouble is when the gas in the struts heat up after a drive, the hood will fly open at high speed when you pull the lever. Adjusted otherwise, you can exit the car and control the opening of the hood so it doesn't break off the hinges.

    So...your thoughts?

    Eric,

With "energetic" gas struts the lid does fly open when everything is warm. For my part, I slow the lid down as it reaches the top of its travel with my hand - since my other hand is on the lever the lid is within easy reach.

yeah, the hydrolics need replacing every now and then. Technically it should fly up but i would also slow it down so you down damage the hinges, a bit fragile i hear

I replaced my struts when I first got my car as they didn't hold anything open. Now I pop the latch it pops open and I can lift up with one finger and there it will stay until pushed back down.

Mine releases completely but I do have to lift the hood. It does not raise on it's own. But once open, it stays open no problem, until I close it.
