Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and also about the get my first Ferrari. its a silver Berlinetta with manual shifter and 5.2 version. I am waiting to get the car, but in the meantime a few things caught my eye as I went to see the car upon purchase. The gearbox, and shocks and perhaps other things had tags/small steel wires fixed onto them. Brakes where cross drilled and there where cooling ducts to the brakes. The rear tailplate was not solid but a perforated steel mesh plate. I suspect that it is lower and stiffer as well, but no way for me to say that for sure at the moment. All these findings confuses me as I believed this was mostly bits and features only present on challenge and Fiorano models. Or is there also a "semi challenge" option somewhere in the line? Any tips and thoughts? I dont have the car in my garage yet so I cant look for further clues until 14 days from now. Any tips and recommendations is highly appreciated. best regards Mats Andersen Norway
Welcome Mats! Post pictures when you take delivery! I'm curious to see what you mean about the small tags. As for the grille, it sounds like someone changed out the rear for a challenge grille. Unlikely that it came that way from the factory. What color interior? Steve
Hi Yes will do. Interior is bordeaux, so its a rather rare combo. Silver titanium grey exterior. The tags, I am not sure what is the english term. Seals maybe? So gearbox is sealed to prevent unauthorized modifications etc. It says on wiki that its something found on the challenge cars.. Mats
The gearbox, and shocks and perhaps other things had tags/small steel wires fixed onto them. Standard Challenge preparation. Brakes where cross drilled Standard Challenge preparation. and there where cooling ducts to the brakes. Standard street cars have air ducts to the front brakes. Challenge cars have air ducts to the rear from the diffuser. The rear tailplate was not solid but a perforated steel mesh plate. Standard Challenge preparation. I suspect that it is lower and stiffer as well, but no way for me to say that for sure at the moment. Standard Challenge preparation is stiffer springs and shocks. You can verify by looking for upright stiffeners in the tops of the shock tower well.
Allright and thank you very much for the useful information. I will check it out more closely when I get my hands on it. It surely has drilled and large rotors. Any other std 355's around with same sort of thing? Mats
I'm fairly certain that the rotors on my parents car (a '97 Spider) came from Maranello cross drilled. There is no record of them having ever been changed or swapped out, plus, the pads look to have the correct amount of mileage. Most 355's I have seen personally have solid rotors - although someone more knowledgeable than myself will have to answer.
hm I will check the rotor size, i suspect the challenge rotors to have a rather larger diameter. What the size of those Maranello rotors? Mats
Sorry Mats- I think you misunderstood. The car has stock sized 355 rotors, but they are cross drilled. As info, their calipers are also red from the factory.
These pictures are from an archived ad for the car (pardon the low resolution), but clearly show the drilled rotors and red calipers. Their car is a '97, so definitely NOT a Fiorano. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi thanks Image Unavailable, Please Login Allright, but Fiorano only was latest production run? heres a photo from when I went to check it out. Will post more photos when I get it. Yes brakes are cross drilled and calipers red, but not larger discs than std I think.
