Just saying that before I bought my Tubi header I talked to a tech who worked at FNE and then started is own shop in Boston. When I asked about new oem or Tubi he said the new oem were no better than the old ones and go with Tubi. Model year had not been brought up.

I think there's a bit more to it - my car has either had test pipes or exhaust that completely separates the primary and bypass exhaust paths (or both) for at least the last 20k miles. I don't know for sure before that as I don't have the mileage when test pipes/capristo were originally installed. Capristo's literature claimed that feedback through the primary cats when the bypass was open is what would cause them to overheat and break apart, which is also linked to melting the headers. That's not to say Ferrari didn't put inadequate headers on the car as designed, they obviously did as a lot of them failed, but it may not just be down to materials and thickness...We'll see, if and when they fail, I'll replace them, but I have high flow cats with the challenge exhaust now and am installing a Capristo 3 this winter, so will keep the separate primary/bypass setup.

Thank you! I've enjoyed my GTB on the street and the track but like almost all street cars it shows its weaknesses after a handful of laps. This of course gave me the itch to drive a 355 hard lap after lap and the Challenge felt the best way to scratch that itch.

I do plan to use it as a casual track day experience with the optionality of occasional street use to / from an event or if I just want to punish myself with a stiff suspension, wearing a bike helmet and pretending I didn't wish for A/C. :)

Those CH seats you have, Ken, are tempting but like you I'd just squirrel them away for later restoration. For my needs, expired original seats aren't any more helpful than non OEM less expired seats. I'll focus on more performance / safety oriented fixes for now.

It's been 11 years since that timing belt was changed so that's 1st on the list. I'll be sure to post some pics when I get to drive it in anger.

Glad you think so, too! It feels expensive spending 6 figures on a period race car but I'd be preaching to the choir justifying why the 355 CH is such a unique specimen. Despite already having a street GTB I'm giddy thinking about the weather in the Northeast breaking and getting a chance to stretch its legs.

Interesting that the majority of cars being sold on BAT these days are Berlinettas or GTSs and not so many Spiders. Used to be way more spiders that the others.

Is that a record price paid for a 355?

    Spoke too soon:)

If you noticed, the red GTS is in Belgium and the auction is in Euros. Of course Europe has less spiders.

Is it final price or without fee?
Where did you see the result? I thought it was sealed auction?

    Sorry I missed it.

  21. That's a crazy price for the "Schumacher" F355. From what I can tell, he drove it a bit, but might not have been the owner, as it was registered in the name of Willie Weber's Management company. And it doesn't have matching numbers, and an apparently rough paint job etc.

Unless headers are made from 321 or 347 they remain consumables.

304 has a longer life than mild steel, but even here life is limited:: although it maters little when the car lives a street life.
