Guys, The time has come for me to make a purchase-- 31 years in the making!!! I am looking for a 355 GTB/GTS only, manual only, 99% sure rosso corsa only. I've been looking at this GTB on switchcars.com-- great history, but still overpriced in my opinion at $69,980. SwitchCars.com - 1996 Ferrari F355 Red 1. Does anyone know any +/- on this car? 2. Can anyone recommend a shop for a PPI in Ohio near where its located? 3. I am interested in any other examples anyone has seen that are available-- especially F-Chat examples. Thanks Fellas.
I know of none that fit your criteria in recent memory. Red/Tan GTB/GTS 6 speed. Hummmm.... most probably don't make it to the public and are sold through private channels. $69k may seem like a lot but it's not far off if it is overpriced.
Well, there was this one which I recall was listed at $59k. 1995 Ferrari F355 Berlinetta1-OwnerClean Carfax For Sale In Somerville MA - John's Auto Sales $69 is way over priced. At least $10k. A really nice yellow/black sold out of Colorado for $49.9k earlier this year.
That's a nice 95. No mention of service however. Even considering that, it sold for 59k. The switchcars 355 will sell at or near asking price.
Paging DaveRocks to isle 355 to tell us this car is worth 35k.... Is $69,980 close enough to add to your list of 70k 355s?
The specs you want are reasonably hard to find on the open market. 6 speed GTB/GTS cars in Rosso Corsa seem to either not trade hands much or perhaps they trade hands without ever having to hit the open market. Not sure about the specific example at Switchcars, but for a PPI you can see Earl Gibbs at North Coast Exotics. His number is 216-651-5512. Because of his proximity to Switchcars, I believe he does a fair amount of PPI's for cars that Doug has and he knows Doug. But he's also a stickler (understatement) for finding issues with Ferrari's and when he did my PPI I felt he was extremely objective. Doug and Earl and both good guys. I bought my 98 GTB, 6 speed, Rosso Corsa from Doug this past January and Earl did the PPI.
The car looks nice but then seeing them up close in person always shows more than the pics. I do not like the seat leather....fits like crap and will only get worse. Everything else seems ok....Key word being "seems". Check it out and have a proper ppi done and if it you like it....buy it. A 95 is the only thing that could make this car better. Good luck with the hunt.
In the market, myself, for a GTB or GTS but looking for an F1 only. Seems like the transmission choice is really a personal one, but all else said... $69k just seems high in this case. The car looks clean, though, so that's a plus - with 20k miles it's also just around average for mileage. Red is definitely harder to find (my opinion/experience) than other colors, so that's a plus. I don't know - seems about $10k over-priced. But at the end of the day, the price is really subjective. It may be worth $69k to someone - not for me. I'd consider $69k if it were a GTS, F1 transmission, and had a completely overhauled exhaust system.
To me, if the car is good and it is all that you expect in a very good 355, then you buy it at the price or you may never find another one for a long time. The price of a good 355 is like everything else in life....relative. I bought mine 9 years ago and spent 120gs on it. Would I give up that 9 years of driving this beauty for the sake of 50gs? Not a chance in hell. So if you find the right one...BUY IT! Or wait till they get cheaper and you get older.
The one in Mass was a wreck. I went and looked at it, had a full paint job that was average - owner just side swiped garage again, entire side needed paint again. Leather was very bad, needed a dash, needed a major, entire car was issue. I it needed guides u could spend 40k on that car and you would still have a car that was repainted twice. Owner was a nice guy, but I just left without making an offer and nicely said I wouldn't pay 30k for the car. I was shocked it had under 10k on it. AK
Someone not willing to pay $69k means for this car means nothing. All that matters is that one person is willing to. It just take one buyer. Most likely someone will pay it or very close to it. SwitchCars sells cars. They know the market better than the Fchat peanut gallery and have priced it accordingly.
+1 I think this sums it up well Gerry. I looked for a long, long time and in my experience I've found that if you pass on one that meets your expectations....you could be in for another long wait before you stumble into the next one.
OP You may want to contact Dave Rocks about this car as I believe he was close to buying it at one point.
Without getting into all the details here, I had a deal on this car for $60K with the major. Prior owner/Seller is a member here. I'm also not a fan of the seats and I was planning to address them had I bought the car. Deal fell thru and I could not be happier for I landed a much nicer car for less than the price being asked now. In summary, the car is very nice but I would not pay that price for it.
