Hey guys and girls, I'm new to this board. So I'll start off by posting some info about me I own a yellow F355 GTS (w/ tubi), challenge grill on the back and I'm thinking about putting some new rims on my ride. The problem is that I'm not sure if I want to change anything about my car. I'm one of these guys who likes his car stock. Anyone has chrome challenge rims on his F355 and maybe some pics to show what it looks like? I'm talking about these rims: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/19-FERRARI-CHALLENGE-CHROME-WHEELS-3PC-STYLE-355-360_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43957QQitemZ8054391968QQrdZ1#ebayphotohosting Does anybody know here if these are official Ferrari rims? Or are these cheap knockoffs? I have NO experience at all in this field (rims). Thank you very much for all your help. This forum (and other F forums) really helped me by buying this car. If it wasn't for this forum, I was probably driving a Lambo now so thank you VERY MUCH (sorry for my bad english but it's not my native language) Thanks, Maikel (The Netherlands)
I wouldn't even consider those for your 355. Those wheels are junk. check www.hrewheels.com www.iforged.com
I have the exact same car except the GT-S, but if I were gonna do rims, these are it! But I probably won't do it this year, as it will be in for the 30k this coming winter, may be after that. http://groupawheels.com/modena.html Please post pics for whatever rims you get. How about: www.kinesismotorsport.com Good luck with your search!
Speedline makes some nice lightweight wheels, and of course there are the custom brands like HRE and Kinsesis. Keep them silver though.
You should also look at Fikse wheels. www.fikse.com. I've had 2 sets on my 911 Turbo and am having a set if 19 inch Profil 5S wheels made for my 512 TR.
Chrome wheels are for sissys, LOL. The challenge wheels for the 355 look different than those. Those are styled after 360 challenge wheels. Regards, Vern
I stopped in at the booth at SEMA that is responsible for those wheels on ebay. They look pretty decent in person and I wouldn't hesitate to put them on a cheaper car. My thoughts about aftermarket wheels for a Ferrrari or any other high end car are that they should match the ride. In other words, a budget wheel should never go on such a nice car. Look at it this way, you wouldn't take your Armani suit to a budget tailor would you? Go with HRE, Novitec, Speedline, BBS, or Kinesis, anything else will be inferior to stock.
if you like the rims buy them half of the people on ferrarichat don't own ferrari's. if they weigh a little bit more, who cares now your 0 to 60 time will be slower by .01 of a second wow.
Pardon my response if you find it offensive, but I think he is asking for our opinions here Ferrari owner or not.
If you are not happy with the Stock Wheels, may i suggest HRE 547s. They are High Polished, not Chromed & look Fantastic. I have HREs on another Vehicle & am very satisfied with the Fit & Finish Very easy to Maintain also. BTW : Welcome to FerrariChat
More rotating mass=more inertia. You need more torque to overcome the extra weight and adding more rotating mass is not just like adding the same weight to any other part of the car.
I still think my .01 sec time is right! maybe i'll start driving with a half tank of gas so i can go real fast. haha
I am amazed at how people get bored looking at their cars and want to change them. If you even THINK you like stock just as well, then just stay stock. Sure, every 355 has them, but that's because they are so nice looking! I'd put my money to something else (hyperflows, for instance). Or get a nice menacing set of track wheels and do a few track events per year. Then you get to bond with the car as you prep it for the track, you get to see it with different wheels now and then, and you get to go to the track! Welcome - and nice choice on the 355 GTS! PS - IMO, chrome wheels should be illegal.
Van, I am guessing you have not spent much time driving on a track. The fact of the matter is the lighter the car the faster and better it will do everything. It will go faster, stop better, and handle better. Funny you mention the fuel at half tank as many road racers will plan thier fuel fill depending on the length of time or laps they will run. The other fact to be aware of is that unsprung weight is one of the most critical areas for weight reduction on a sports or racecar (ie wheels). By no means am I saying you shouldn't modify your car (look at my profile pic) but do it tastefully and in the intrest of the original idea of a sports car.
Thanks for all the urls, will definitely check them out! Like I said, have no experience at all with buying rims so I could use some help
Colby, your right in everthing you said. most cars are extensions of a persons personality, if the owner likes them that's all that matters. if there cheap rims who cares. makes it even better when you get tired of them, you can put back the stock rims or buy another set of cheap rims and tires. no ego when i drive my car. i always let people and kids sit in my car. the cars are for everybody and feel real fortunate to own one and enjoy seeing peoples faces when i tell them to get in. also i just smile at corvettes when they pull up next to me a traffic lights and rev there engines i know my limitations.
These rims look great, excellent priced rims. However, please note this design has nothing to do with the Ferrari's name "challenge" or "local Ferrari dealer selling them at..." as what the seller claimed.
My pick for the 355 wheels are the Hamann.... FYI, you WILL feel the difference with heavier wheels. Most notably in the form of a more sluggish accelerator/throttle response then a slower speed trap. Image Unavailable, Please Login
No offense but ......YOU ARE SCARING ME !!! MY opinion. 1-those wheels are tooo busy. 2-crome wont get you home, besides chrome wheels are out. There are next to no NON-factory wheels that are pleasing to the eye , and yes I am aware Ferrari makes chrome wheels but unless the car is vintage it looks tacky. MY355
colby hit this subject on the head, of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but this guy asked for opinions from others because he stated having no knowledge about rims. if you want to put an inferior wheel on your car, why drive a ferrari? it is because of the car's looks, driving dynamics etc.... cheap begets cheapo, quality has enduring syle and PERFORMANCE, do you wear flipflops with a bespoke suit? my .02$
Avus Forged Wheels, I highly recommend in finish, construction, and quality!! www.avuswheels.com or Cargraphic wheels are classic on the F355
sorry, those wheels belong on a ricer, and not on a ferrari. I think the stock wheels look perfect on the 355. Have you thought about just putting larger tires (295's) on the rear of the stock rims and 245's on the front? YES, they do fit without problem. Then, you should add some 15mm spacers all the way around and you car will have a very aggressive stance. gordon
HRE, Fikse, Kinesis, Iforged, NEEZ, Forgeline, Speedline, Hamann, Fabulous I'd stay within those, most everything else is utter garbage. If you get bad wheels, its like buying the best TV and getting the worst cables to go with it.. E
