If the speaker wire is being used for power, I would make sure that it's either encapped (with a non conductive covering) or the entire wire is removed. I don't know if that speaker wires uses power from frunk fuse 4, but I'd make sure that you have a fuse there. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It's on the river's side of the console opening. I could barely get my 1' long extension in there to take the nut off. I can try to take a pic after I install the harness. I'll post it up if it looks decent. Thanks for all the help. Keeping fingers crossed that everything works!
So it worked for a few minutes, but then the right side sound faded away and shortly after that, the left side faded away too. I'm guessing that the unit needs repair and that's why the radio was swapped out. I could do the same thing but I'd buy an adapter instead of cutting everything up. Or have the radio repaired somehow. It does turn on and off with the key out of the ignition. I assume that's the same with other people's cars.....?
I just tried it again and now it's working. It's like the volume buttons need to be cleaned or something because it gets scratchy like those old school knobs that we get scratchy from sitting around for a long time. I guess time will tell.....
I would ask this question on the 348/355 forum. I just put mine back together and it operates as I thought it would (with that wiring). i.e. It remains powered when the key is off. I had to use the power button to turn it off. Well, the display worked... not much else. I may have to retune the radio or find some CDs/tapes. If all else fails, I'll have to read the manual I assume all the installations are done at the dealers, so maybe my dealer messed up the wiring?
I just assumed because the harness is not shown in the parts manual. The OEM wiring diagrams don't show the installations either (only up to connector 59014). Some 355's have a Becker radio as standard, but I don't know if that's based on assembly number or market. Ugh... everytime I work on my car, I damage something... When I was drawing the radio wiring diagrams on a piece of paper, I didn't notice I was getting pen marks on my white leather. I tried to get it off with some really mild solvent (MAF cleaner), but when that didn't work, I used isopropyl alcohol (Google suggestion)... It rubbed a hole in the leather back to the raw uncoloured leather in a very conspicuous spot
Oh no!!! That's awful! That diagram should be saved somewhere in this forum in a file. I can't be the only one dealing with this issue. I was terrified of burning holes in my leather from the soldering iron while soldering that connection back into the dash. I took one of my thick jackets and lined the whole floor with it and the seat just to make sure. Luckily, I didn't do any damage. But it was hairy for sure!
I looked into accessing the ACC wiring near the steering column, but it's not easy to get to, at least on a RHD car. Image Unavailable, Please Login I also have an aversion to cutting into power wires and splicing new ones in. USA/Canada cars have an 8 slot plug. Other markets have 6. It's to do with the USA/Can cars having a seatbelt buzzer. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hey now...I never said I was a professional solderer! Honestly, the only difficult one was the last one with three heavy wires. The iron wouldn't get hot enough to melt the solder through and through. But it was enough to hold. At least everything is soldered and shrink wrapped properly and it works! Much thanks to you kind sir!
