    I just put new tires on my f355 yesterday. I went up to the 295/35/18's on the rear. Kept 225/40/18's on the front. I took some pictures so if anybody else was thinking about that would get a better idea how it would look on their car. I was a little hesitant about doing it even though I had read other were pleased with the upgrade. Everybody has different tastes and I didn't want the car to start looking like a hot rod. I must say that I am very pleased with the look as well. The side profile did not change and the back of the car looks more aggressive.:)

    I like it. My car had new tires on it when I got it at the end of last year so it will be awhile, but when I need to buy tires for it I will go with the 295s on the rear for sure.

    I've read that the 295's make the car feel not as light and nimble through the turns, even though grip is greatly increased. Any noticeable difference in turn-in feel or change-over?
    I thought about 295's but went stock size as I didn't want to affect the feel of the car.

    It looks really great and very very mean!!

    Thanks Cuneo. It does look a lot more aggressive. I have only driven back from the tire dealer. I wasn't driving aggressively, so I didn't notice any major difference.

    Thanks Brian. The Pilot Sports that came on the car are in good condition, and I could have kept them on for a lot longer, but I have never really loved some of the directional tread designs.

    Thanks Pete. Thanks for the info on the DW's. I ended up using RE050A's. It was a toss up between the RE's which I have on another car and like, the DW's, and the PS2's.

    Let us know how they work out. There are a lot of good tires out there these days, to be honest I think it's tough to go wrong with any of the choices available for our cars if you do a minimum of research.

    Nice look, I am also considering increasing the size of the tires, with the 225/295 I am concerned with the change in ratio and for potential for change in steering response. Also a larger contact patch in the rear will potentially increase the stresses on the transaxles, especially if you like straght-line accelerations. I have 360 challenge wheels and am considering 235/285 like the Stradale.

    The pilot sport are the best tire for the 355. 295 on the back is great but I went to 235 40 on the front. The 225 is too skinny. For anyone that buys the ps2, you will find even better grip when they are worn 25 % or more. If you went with the 355 speedline challenge wheels, then you get even better response. Add in the tikor titanium wheel bolts and you have the optimum. The 360 challenge wheels are nice but wont clear the hats on the back wheels. Spacers are crap for these cars.

    I don't know if the transaxle will be more stressed with these tires. I am also not planning on doing any burnouts with it either. The challenge cars run some pretty aggressive rubber. I have never seen any posts of problems with challenge car transaxles or come to think of it, 355 transaxles in general. I also don't know if they run different transaxles. Talking with someone that owns or has worked on one of these cars would help.

    Not so far. The section width of the Michelin's were 10.9" on a 10" rim. The section width on the Bridgestone's are 11.8" on a 10" rim. Split .9" on the both sides of the rim, so you are only adding .45" to the inner rim and .45" to the outer. I had seen other threads on this but thought that the pictures weren't giving me some of the angles I was looking for. I tried to take more close up shots of the tire in relation to how it fits in the quarter panel and also a close up width comparison.(new vs. old) The tire installer felt the 265/40/18's were a little narrow for the rims. After they were installed he equated it to looking at the back end of a viper, a lot more aggressive. I hope the pictures I took give a more detailed visual for anyone interested in going in this direction.:)

    295/35s here with nothing but improvements to report. With the OEM size it would break and get squirly in 1st to 2nd and with the 295s it stays tracking right and launching in 1st is better.

    275/35 on the rear for me, it is even more nimble than stock with the shorter sidewall. 295 is just a tad too wide for a 10" wheel, 10.5" is the narrowest I'd run with a 295. It allows the tire to sway when the sidewalks stand up perfectly straight.

    Look at any proper racecar setup (formula cars especially) and the sidewall will lean slightly inward from bead to shoulder. The sidewalls are not parallel so they can't act as "hinges" so to speak.

    For strictly street use I you'll be fine and it does look killer.

    Robb, the Bridgestone and Michelin recommended rim width for these tires are 10-11.5". The Conti DW's recommends a rim width of 10-11".


    Scott, what tires did you run on your car?

    Didn't the challenge cars run 295's on 10" rims? Seemed to work ok for them.

    That said, you'd need to be a pro to feel the difference between 275's and 295's of the same model tire, and you'd probably have to drive them back to back. They might be worth half a second on a road course. Might, if the car was set up properly to use them and you knew how to drive the car at it's maximum. If one looks better to you than the other, I honestly wouldn't sweat it unless you're planning to run time trials - and in that case the penalty for running 295's probably wouldn't be worth the fractional seconds you'd pick up.

    Any chance the 295/35 tire is longer in diameter vs stock... or does the drop in aspect ratio make it about the same or smaller diameter? At 25 mph, my speedo overstates the speed and reads around 28 or 29 mph... I would be open to a little longer diameter tire that might get the true speed closer to the speedo reading :)

    Judd, here are some tires with diameters that I have read will work also.

    Stock is 265/40/18. Diameter is 26.3".

    275/40/18. Diameter is 26.6".

    275/35/18. Diameter is 25.6".

    285/35/18. Diameter is 25.9".

    295/35/18. Diameter is 26.1".

    I wouldn't sacrifice acceleration for an accurate speedometer. That small change will barely put a dent in your speedo inaccuracy. Checkout www.speedohealer.com.

    This year I switched to the DH compound. I don't think D3 is offered anymore.

    I run the same size as you Rob. I ran the stock size and also the 275/40 size before settling on the 275/35 size. I chose that size based on the better handling on the track. For the street any of the sizes mentioned would be fine.
