Open the trunk, strap the kit back in place and forget about it.

Honestly, that's what I did with mine. You will probably never use any one of those tools ever.

Give the kit a quick once over and then go out and enjoy the best sounding V8 ever!!

Don't waste time or energy redyeing that thing......

 

The cylinders are all expired and Ferrari does not supply the branded ones anymore. Keep the old one that you have.

 

Buy a spare can from PeP Boys and use that if need be. DO NOT use the Ferrari one. You want to keep it in the car with the original stuff...

 

Honestly, I wouldn't use the stuff anyway.

I am a real numb-nut, and recently leaned how to plug tires. I got a cheapo kit from AutoZone and plugged a tire in the Ferrari, and one in my MINI. It is so amazingly simple, that I put a spare kit of tire plugs and the little reamer tool in each car. I also bought a fairly cheap ciggy-lighter compressor (brand was "SLIME" I think) for each car.

On the Cooper, I picked up a nail in my neighborhood and felt the flat as we pulled into the driveway. I'm not exaggerating (which is too common on Fchat), but in about 15 minutes the tire was plugged and reinflated. No AAA, no explosive can of goop, etc. etc. Plugs hold just great! If I can plug a tire, anybody can. Really.

(On the Ferrari I did get new tires because I was going on track shortly thereafter).

 

Good advice!! Add some pliers to the kit---Alot of times nails, bolts, etc are a bugger to pull out of the tire

 

I forgot to add that to my message above.... yes of course, pliers are needed to pull things out of the tire.

 

+1. A redye will never look right, since it is simply "paint" over the original dye. Just clean it up as best you can and call it good. I actually keep the tool kit and can of Ferrari inflator in my basement on a shelf, safe from damage. Same with the original factory mats. I then purchased some nice aftermarket mats, and two cans of tire sealant for the trunk.....oh, and do keep the tow hook in the trunk too! But agree with Daniel, a nice plug kit and inexpensive inflator pump could save the day from waiting around for AAA.

 

Please only use a plug temporarily. Please get it patched at a respective tire store. The problem with plugs is that you ream the hole which enlarges it, then you put this gooey worm-like thing in the tread and expecting it to hold with some vulcanizing tire cement over the course of a few years. Another note on this topic, I know the 355 does not have TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system), but your other vehicles may. If you use a temp fix-a-flat goo make sure it is the Continental brand as it is the only brand on the market that is rated for and will not destroy a $50 sensor.

 

I got some cleaner and dye from liquid leather a couple of weeks ago and Dave is going to try it out on my tool case next week. Keep an eye on the respray thread and I'll post up pictures/details there.

 

Just what are these dang tool kits worth? I have had mine sitting on a shelve in my closet for 2 yrs. Other than being able to say I have the original tool kit along with books and records it just doesn't impress me. I might be interested in letting mine go...maybe.
My car is very modified and I don't give a rip about concours showing. I have other things I'd like to do to my car and they just don't include the original tool kit.

 

Jon. I wouldn't sell it if I were you. A lot of buyers will expect the tool kit to be in the car. Either they would expect a discount or may skip to another car.

 

That is exactly what I did. I learned along time ago about plugging tires. We used to do it when it was legal back when I worked in a gas station. They hold remarkably well and if you're in a pinch, they work very well. I did one on my 3/4 ton truck 4 years ago and it's still in there and holding fine.

The compressor and plug kit fits in my tool kit just fine after I took the factory fix-a-flat can out and shelved it.

I tried to use that stuff one time and got more on me and the car, then in the tire and ended up calling AAA.

 

Yeah, I know what you mean but I don't plan on selling it any time soon. I think these things are tanking and are becoming the new 928.
Cheap to buy and unacceptable parts and labor prices. Just look at the price on an oe 348 challenge badge, holy c'moley!

If I were a rational guy I wouldn't considering owning any of these cars after doing the math, not including a fledgling ecomomy.

I understand that you little guys start out with your woobies and you think they're great... and they are, they are terrific. But pretty soon, a woobie isn't enough. You're out on the street trying to score an electric blanket, or maybe a quilt. And the next thing you know, you're strung out on bedspreads Ken. That's serious.

 

You can purchase, perhaps from the same store, a MOTORCYCLE tire plug kit that comes in a nice little velcro/nylon case for about $2 more. I keep it in stuffed in the styrofoam spare air holder along with a new can of spray fill. On long trips I carry a compressor.
