I have a 1999 F355 F1 Spider with 2700 miles on it and wondered whether I should be looking to replace the shocks because of age (not milage...of course)?

How many F355 owners have replaced/upgraded their shocks?

Is this more difficult and expensive do to the sport and normal settings?

    Thanks in advance...

They should be replaced if they are leaking. As for replacement,
its cheaper to rebuild. Im sure someone will post the website
of the company that rebuilds cheap.

Algar Ferrari quoted me 2.5 Hours per shock at $121 an hour to
    do mine.

They did my rear 355 shocks, one of mine was leaking from the top. The only minor complaint was the time it took to have them turned around but I was notified in advance that it would take longer than usual due to a back log.

Call Delta-Vee and they will be able to help you, answer all of your questions, and give you a very good price on rebuilding them. Buying new shocks is a waste of money.

Unless there is a problem, that would be the last thing I'd be concerned with on a car with only 2700 miles on it....I would be more concerned with the seals, gaskets , etc drying out and going bad....

I replaced mine with Moton triple adjustables and no comparison to stock. The ride is actually better than stock and handling improved. There is so much adjustment that you can set it up anyway you want. Down side is cost. I am sure that rebuilt stock shocks would be good also.

Pics of the Ohlins kit installed in 355TT Spider. :)

    QUOTE FERRARIFIXER........

"and here's the 355 ohlins kit installed.

This kit is a direct bolt in job, and can be retro fitted to any 355 in just a few hours, plus a wheel alignment if it is also lowered and corner weighted. The ohlins are TT44, 4 way adjustable. The best available. The mounting brackets are my own design, made by a very helpful V8 supercar team with a not very busy CNC milling machine.

The original shock adjusters are removed, which activates the suspension warning light. I just put tape over the light, in case the original shocks need to be refitted for "comfort", again, in just a few hours.

Curiously, I thought the Cab chassis of the 355TT would be really weak, but when I installed the shocks, I had to increase cannister and rebound a little to tighten it for the road, as even with much stiffer springs, it was a little loose.

All the adjustments can be easily reached with the wheel fitted, at the roadside, with the exception of the shaft mounted high speed bump adjuster, which is seldom used anyway.

PAP - What is the purpose of aftermarket shocks? I guess for tracking the car?? And do you have pics of his motor with the turbos??

That paticular car was tracked. Yes. But im sure anyone with the moolah can get them also for 'toughness reasons'. Car does not have to be tracked. :D

Here is the link to the 'twin turbo 355 downunder'. Great story and should have some pics there also mate. 37 pages. Nice thread. Made some SERIOUS HORSEPOWER!! UNREAL! Stock 355 engine, clutch and F1 gearbox too. :)

Actually...........I think he more so got those Ohlins to help him launch the car hard off the line for his 1/4 mile racing. He does not track the car that much. Mainly races 1/4 miles I think. :) Bah, it should all be in that thread anyways. I could not be bothered re-reading through all 37 pages of it again. Nice work though and very interesting. :)
