I had not drive my 96 F355B in a week. Went to start it up today and the Slow Down light started blinking. I shut the car off and restarted it....some problem. It goes solid for a couple seconds after i shut the car off. When i start it again, it starts blinking.

The car was sitting for a week so i know the cats were not hot.

First time i am seeing this.

    Any ideas? Advice?

I remembering reading an older post on the board in which an 02 sensor went bad causing triggering the light.

I'll try to dig it up. Good luck.

"If the light flashes, the catalytic converter temp is too high, reaching a level of 1724 + 68F (940 +20C)"

Not sure what else it could be....

Agreed but in this case, i had just started the car up after it had been sitting for a week.

Vitamin J -- Any luck on the 02 sensor?

Anyone have other ideas or things i should try to chase?

    Cheers
    Mark

I understand Mark, but that's all I know. Good luck and keep us posted as to what you find out.

I believe that the O2 sensor does not come into play until the car is in motion and will start the permissives in the ECU. The temp sensor is the one that will trigger this slow down light on start up. Check the thermocouple, wiring, connection etc. Good place to start. It is a mV signal that if the connection goes (dirty, etc) it will loose a signal and go to a default high temp reading.

Its not uncommoon for the ECU that operates the slow down lights to malfuction, which is what yours are doing by the way you have described the situation. Do a search on the subject it has been discussed many times. Regards, Vern

Exact same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. Slow down light started blinking as soon as I started the car. The light then went off as I was headed to my mechanic...

Haha...same thing happened to me....i was on the freeway heading to the dealer and it stopped blinking. I guess i will sit tight for now and see if comes back. (I have a feeling there is a crack on the CAT ECU that let some water in.)
