Hi all! This should be such a simple job (and I've done it many times before in other cars), however......... I'm trying to replace the Sony tuner / CD player in my 355 Spider, but can I get it out of the dashboard?!?!?!? Err... No! It's taken a long time just to get the black plastic surround / trim off the front! Having done that, I was hoping to reveal four holes in the stereo, which would release it when suitable prongs are inserted. However, there is no sign of these. There is a small slot in each of the top corners (and one appears to have had something forced into it before, as it is damaged), but I'm not convinced. Picture of the problem attached to this thread. This isn't an original Ferrari stereo, although it is a Sony. Does anybody have any idea how to remove one of these things so I can get my Alpine MP3 player in there instead?!?!? Thanks! Dem. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Dem, The stereo should have come with a "flat-key" along with the manual. The key goes in the top slots and pushes down a tab that is locking it in. I put the key on one end, push it down and pull it out a little so it can not lock in. Then I do the same to the other side and it slips out easily. --tony
Hi Tony! Thanks very much for the advice. Sadly, this is the stereo that came with the car, so I have no manual or key. I have a box & manual from a newer Sony stereo (which was stolen from my 300ZX a couple of years ago), but sadly cannot find a key in there. Anyway, I guess I'll just have to try and make something up out of a flat piece of metal! Cheers, Dem.
Dem I will find mine and post an image. It is a bit of a pain. You have to stick the key in and then move it around until you feel it holding the tab down and then pull. Maybe with the image you can make one --tony
Dem, Here is a link to the image: http://www.tonycricelli.com/Ferrari/Ferrari%20Stereo%20Sony%20Key/index.php The best thing to do is just take it to a stero shop to remove it for you, it would take them under a minute to remove iit. --tony
Hi Tony, Thanks again - the picture is a great help. I'll see if I can do it myself. If not, I'm due to take her down to the dealership next weekend to sort out the handbrake, so I'll see if they have the tool there! Cheers, Dem.
I knew that key looked familiar - found the very same thing in the glovebox of my mum's Nissan 200SX, which came with a Sony as standard! Just the job! I now have something far better installed in the 355. One question though - the harness in the car seems to have no connection to rear speakers; is this because the 355 Spider has no provision for rear speakers? I assume this is the case, but just wanted to check! Cheers, Dem. Image Unavailable, Please Login
