Hoping some local F-Chatters might be able to help me out. I am on the verge of closing a deal on an F355. The problem I am faced with is that I have never ridden in one, nor have I driven one. The most I have done is sit in one, but I didn't play with the seat, and I was bit tall (it felt) in it. If there is anyone in the area or even a dealer that wouldn't mind taking me for a spin I would appreciate it. We can even do a lunch or dinner someplace. TIA. .m
awesome mike!! good luck man!!! expect to see some great pix once posted!! hope you're doing good, keep me informed!!
I had the pleasure of driving in my buddies, unfortunately we ran outa time so I didnt get the dream of driving it, but soon...but i gotta say...I thought that the 355 had the most leg room out of any sports car iv ever sat in/driven in, or seen. thats from the passangers side tho...most cars the leg room is cut off by the dashboard, but the 355b, or maybe all 355's, the leg room is extended underneath the dashboard, almost all the way. I really really shocked how much room it had.
Thanks man appreciate the props! Been debating this for over a year. Nothing is ever final, but it is close enough the I need to get everything in order. Will definately post pics. .m
Hey Mike, good luck in closing the deal (if it turns out to be what you want) and you promised me a ride when you get one...so... Hurry Up!
Mike: as we discussed, all I can offer you is my 355 Challenge but that is really not any "feel" you can get for a street car. All I have buddy. Sorry. How about a Spec Miata
If you really want to, I'll sell you my 348 (you know how that drives already). As I recall you are pretty set on a 355 so maybe go to the collection or Shelton and see if they have one to test out. They might even make you a good deal on it. BT
Tried with the Collection. They asked me to put down 20K as a deposit with the contingency that upon an "approved" test drive I would buy the car. I shot back with the comment of, "No problem. And if anything remotely goes wrong with the car for 12 months you are picking up the bill. Deal?" You know this is just going to be a can of worms, and it ain't worth the hassle. Shelton is a possibility though. They don't have a 95 though. I don't have a relationship with anyone at either place really, I mean, not the same way some individuals from here do. I have been working with Martin ever since the whole "Fiorano" caught me. He has really been taking care of me. Trust him 100%. The one we had picked out actually ended up selling. And you know that if we find something local you are going to be getting to ring to come check it out before hand. BTW, I didn't know you were EVER going to give that car up? Are you looking to get into something else?
Not looking to sell it, but if someone I know wanted to buy it, I'd sell and get something like the 512TR that Richard just sold. I'm glad keeping it, just giving you more to think about as you are clearly not confused enough. BT
While I really like the 348 I have, I am not attached to it emotionally. So it is for sale unofficially as long as the buyer is not problematic. That is why I threw it out there. Probably the biggest problem with selling a Ferrari is dealing with a buyer that can't actually purchase the car. Knowing that Michael can afford it means I won't be dealing with any drama if he wanted to buy it. People that know me know the car is well taken care of so any maintenance and cosmetic issues are not a question mark. Dave if you know someone looking to buy feel free to give them my name. I am not actively selling the car, but just willing to sell if someone really wants to buy it. BT
Hey Mike, glad to hear you're taking the plunge into the 355 world!!! I can't wait for you to get one. Finally, there will be someone else in our 'group' that isn't afraid to test out 4th, 5th and 6th gears!!! Shelton has a nice yellow/black one in the showroom. However, as with anyone (dealer or private), they don't just want to put joy rides on the cars they're selling, so if they let you drive it, it's because you're considering that car, not just because you want to drive one. Richard H., Robert's friend, from the SSF dinners, just bought a 355 spider (he's selling it - dealer), and he would probably let you drive it. Jay Weitzel (F-club) has a 355. Also, JP's dad has one. There are a few other guys I know w/ 355's, I will need to look up their names/numbers for you. Best bet, look at the classifieds, perhaps there's someone who has one for sale locally that would let you drive it. With any car, get a PPI. On the 355's make sure the valve guides, headers, seat potentiometers (on spiders), interior parts (sticky), a/c control (distorted), dash (shrinkage), are all ok. Also, the 348's & 355's need the engine taken out of the car for the major belt service, which is expensive, so try to find one with a recent service & records. Let me know if you need any help! And, just DO IT!!!
Are you getting rid of it since it probably feels like it is the size of your motor home after driving the Ginetta?
