    Hi everybody,

I am trying to find out why I only get air out of the defroster ducts (the ones pointing up towards the inside of the windshield) no matter what position the selector knob is in. Everything else on my HVAC works. I have heat, A/C, the fan reacts correctly to the desired setting, the recirculation button works and the STOP button works. How about that? :)

It would be so nice if I could get air out of the other ducts when I select those with the rotary knob in the control panel.

Any idea how I can fix this?

    Thanks,
    Rik Gruwez

Thanks. Is there a way I can bench test this actuator so I know 100% sure it is at fault?

    Rik,

My 355 had the same problem. I checked everything, everywhere.

During a service Joe Macari diagnosed the ECU for me but were unable to supply a new item, no longer made apparently.

It is sited under the front hood, uk nearside, about the size and colour of a video, (remember them). In my case a secondhand one cost £300 from Eurosapres. A simple 15 minute job to replace it.

Just check the multiplug is secure before ordering a replacement!

The flap that has been mentioned could, on mine, be seen operating if you switch from recirculate to fresh air intake. Sadly the position of this flap made no difference to the screen vents!

    Good luck

    Steve

It took me some time to figure out the actuator was actually located under the dash and not in the luggage compartment. ;-)
I gave the the actuator a couple of light taps with a rubber mallet and... hey presto! Everything works again!

Lack of use is never a good thing.

    Regards,
    Rik
