    Hello,

My plans are to get a 1997 F355 Spyder(manual) soon. I'd like to eventually replace exhaust pipes with maybe a Tubi or Capristo, swap out cats for striaght pipes, and lastly headers which I'm told is a must. What is the best setup for all 3 parts as I'm planning to put this in my expense. Most say F355 headers crack, so might as well put this in my pricing strategy when pricing an F355 as a deduction. Prefer stainless steal and light weight components(if they exist).

P.S. if sound bites exists, please submit links here.

    thank you

Don't think somebody will deduct money for your pricing strategy for headers that may crack. If they are not cracked at the time of purchase don't count on the deduction.

I would suggest to post this in the New York Tri State Section, because a lot of guys there have had 355s and modified their exhaust.

In particular, I would PM Black355 (Emil) and Mahwon (Chris), because their 355s sounded the best by far of the 355s that I've seen/heard.

My exhaust is stock, so I can't tell you much myself.

The stock OEM (Ansa) headers are expendable for tracked cars just like rotors. You can set your watch to when they will burn through (until rebuilt with thicker gauge nmaterial) then they will last a long time. It is not a question of if, it is when ?

I was in the same shoes you were in 5 months ago... I did my homework and learned all I could about the 355 (I read ALL the posts on here!). I ended up with a 97 355 spider 6 speed, red tan. Before I ever drove it, I had new headers put on (from NAperformance, which are awesome by the way and are really the best deal around IMO), capristo exhaust, and stebro test pipes. The car sounds fantastic and I would do it the same way again if I had to do it all over!
feel free to pm me with questions

Do new headers, pipes and capristo or Tubi give it any more horsepower or is it just for the sound factor?

this is always rather controversial, but I have heard that with the total package you may gain up to 15 hp tops. For me the sound was really the deciding factor.... And besides when the exhaust screams, it always seems like you are going faster than you really are!

here is a link to a small video clip of my car for example:

The trick is to find a car that has all the "gotchas" fixed (headers, valve guides, etd) PLUS has the exhaust system you want- you will save a lot by letting the previous owner take the hit. Gordon355 did it a very cool way too in that he bought a 355 in need of attention and put the money in it before he drove it to make it "his", and it seems like w/o going over the value of the car.

With my approach, at least you know what it sounds like before you buy it.

Best of luck in your search,

    Eric

I have a video and before and after dynographs of horsepower increases from 15-25whp with our headers through the range. We lost a little bit of low end torque (6-7lb) but up around 5,000rpm's is where you really see the difference. Our manifolds are the most competetive priced, great quality, and give horsepower increases that have been proven on paper. The only downside is we are selling much better than we expected so there is a wait for them until we can catch up and get to the point where we are able to stock them. We're hoping to be caught up by the end of March assuming orders slow down hopefully for a little while. Other expect any where from 5 weeks-10 week wait if you place an order.

my EU 1996 F355 Spyder manual has the full TUBI package: headers, straight pipes and mufflers. you should be aware of the fact that by getting rid of the cats you might experience some problems with the ECU, which could result in poorer performance. I do not have this problem as my F355 is an EU version and therefore I understand is slightly different with regard to the set up of the engine management system (which is the same MOTRONIC 5.2 from 1996 onwards)

I do have a nice short video if you like. and if somebody can explain me how to post it, I will do it!

    F355, go TUBI.
    360, go Capristo.

Tubi, straight pipe on a '95 ODB1 F355 is the BEST SOUNDING V8 Ferrari ever, period.
I did not have header, so can not tell you what its like to have aftermarket header on F355.

I can vouch for Kevin's headers. They are of excellent quality, my installer had not problems with fitment and they perform awesome! Also, they are the best price around. Period. Glad I got mine without the long wait!
    Highly recommended

Gordon, just curious - did you have to do anything special from keeping the "Check Engine Light" from coming on with you set up? I know you did a lot of research and I'm sure you figured out the right way to do a high-end system like you did.

    Regards,

    Eric

actually, this is one on my next tasks... When the car was delivered the check engine light was not on... after I drove it a bit, it came on and still has not turned off... I will try to have NJB in columbus figure it out. Also the slow down light has been on as well and that needs to be addressed as well ( i guess that is due to the test pipes though)

Thanks for response, Gordon. If it's not one thing, it's another with our cars. I just bought an Innova ODB2 scanner to see what trips mine, but I have a suspicion that it's the exhaust setup.

If you figure yours out, it would be great to get a PM/e-mail about how you solved it. I know you'll figure it out better than the guy in another thread that just put black tape over the CEL light :)

I did TUBI & TEST PIPES.....This sound on the 355 is second to no other Ferrari!!!!The headers are an issue mine went at 12k...At the time Kevin at NA was working on the header fix I think I would go that way....Good price and god knows what that sound will be!!!!!
