    Hello,

I have a 97 Spider and I just got a new fuel filter from Superformance and as you can see in the photo, the fittings go on the opposites ends as the Bosch one that I’m replacing. Is it suppose to go that way? It appears to be backwards.

    Thanks!

Is there an arrow printed on the can? The fuel flow should be in the direction of the printed arrow. Some fuel filters have non-return valves or even bypass valves like oil filters in case they get clogged (really cheap filters don’t).

As a side point, I stopped using Superformance a while back. The quality, frankly, is not to my expectations considering their prices are similar to OE Ferrari parts. For example, I ordered some tensioner bearings for my 355 and they came in unbranded boxes and didn’t look too special. I binned them and decided not to use Superformance any longer — they are a false economy in my book.

Just for info, I looked back in my paperwork and saw that I fitted Purflux EP91 fuel filters to my 2.7 355 last year. Purflux are a quality brand, same manufacturer as the oil filter and I paid €12 each for them.

Thanks for the info and suggestions! I think I will do the same in the future, their filter didn’t look anything special. Their shipping to the US is wicked fast though lol

I ended up watching a video from Ratarossa on YouTube and he installed the Superformance filter in the same orientation as mine appears to go. It’s back up and running (for now)

Are you basing the: "wrong way round" idea, purely on the seam of the filter body being at the other end to the Bosch filter? - If so, that wouldn't be a wise move, because there's a good chance it's simply manufactured differently to the Bosch filter.

As others have already said, the thing to look for is a flow direction arrow on the filter, or flow direction information on the filter body ("IN/OUT" or "INPUT/OUTPUT" on either end of the body).

The fact that the video from Rattarossa shows the him fitting the filters the same way ("backwards"), would seem to confirm that the filter bodies are manufactured the opposite way round to the Bosch filters, but function the exact same way.
