I recognized slack in my cable and went to make a quick adjustment before driving this morning. It's turned into something that has taken over an hour already.

I know I'm supposed to loosen the jam nut on the outer side if things, however there is extremely limited space even pushing the coolant reservoir out of the way. What I have done with pliers, an 8mm wrench, and an 8mm socket is not loosening the nut. Furthermore it is so loose that the entire cable assembly rotates unless held with pliers.

Am I missing something? Is there another trick to this or am I dealing with a nut that is simply stuck due to age etc?

The photo shows 2 nuts. You need to to place a wrench on each of them then loosen, you can't move the pair as a group.

Can you rotate the quadrant enough to release the cable? Once the cable is free, perhaps you can move the cable into a position where you can put two spanners on the locking nuts.

Of course, it wouldn't hurt to put some kind of penetrant on the nuts and leave to soak overnight.

Rotating the quadrant (Brass part) to full open throttle allowed me to slip it through the gap for the cable at the end by the nuts and work freely with it. So simple don't know how I missed it. That being said there was material flaking off between the nuts when I finally broke them free, which tells me someone with good intentions and poor understanding put Locktite glue on the threads. It's now properly adjusted.
