hello guys. i'm looking at a 96 f355. in very initial stages. i saw car and some receipts, did not hear it running as yet (today or tommorrow may test drive). one of the receipts from 1999 stated something about timing belt damage, dealer replaced, checked engine, tets drove, was given all ok. i was shown the tool kit it had a belt in it. i should have paid more attention to condition, it may have been the belt that was removed. questions.... is this unusual? how can a belt be damaged? can it strip? valve /piston conact? i was shown compression numbers ~180 to 170. any comments would be very sincerely appreciated.........
If it had belt dammage and the ferrari dealer fixed the problem and you have paper work. I say dont worry about it. As long as the belt did not snap there is no problems. I mean that was 6 years ago so any problems would have come out in that time. but do make sure that it has had another belt service since 1999 or your current belt will be 6 years old.
...yes I will leverage the major service as best i can against price. the possibility of valve piston contact scares me...but if valves were bent then the engine will leak down......so maybe i'm ok. thanks for the input.... anyone else please?
I didn't think the tool kit had a t-belt in it. A waterpump or A/C belt would make more sense, since they're field replaceable.
i will. i was shown #s written on a post it ranging 180-170, no comfort there but bodes well assuming no deceit.
Last belt change mine had...one of the belts actually had a small hole in it. I guess you'd call that a "damaged belt". Quite scary, but no mechanical damage done, obviously.
