Does anyone know where I can get some Tubi exhaust manifolds for a decent price?
Decent price isn't really doable here. I called Tubi to order some and was told they can't sell them anymore in the US, but then my mechanic called some guys he knows up there and ended up getting them for me. They're about $5200 for the pair and I don't think Tubi has holiday sales... They look great though I don't suspect these will be cracking at all. -R Image Unavailable, Please Login
I've been trying to get these Tubi Manifolds for 2 years, would your mechanic be able to get another set?
I got mine about four months ago. I'll ask my mechanic if he can get his hands on an other set. -Bill
What is the story with that?? Is that an emissions thing? The materials are not approved for US applications or what?
I'll shoot him a note tomorrow to see if he can dig up another set. Can't promise you anything but I'd like to help you out. -R
The story I heard is that the manifolds are considered part of the emission controls (they have air injection tubes, etc), and as such, must be EPA and CA CARB certified. They didn't want to bother going through the process. Not sure how other aftermarket suppliers stay under the radar...
I would be willing to bet that none of the aftermarket manifolds are certified. I also know Tubi has no 5.2 manifolds are in stock because I am waiting for some. I can get them but they are for off road use only.
Well that completely sucks! The tubi's and others seem to have the air-injection/smog provisions, so do they need to be inspected, tested or what. It does not seem it would be "that" hard for a big company like Tubi to get through.
It is a very expensive process and would need to be done federally and for Ca also. There is no way with the small # they sell they could amortize it and not have a huge price increase.
^^ What he said. The few sets of Tubi headers that I have sold have all gone offshore. Actually, they've gone to Latin America, if that counts as "offshore".
There are alot of "small" companies that have CARB approval for lesser items. What kind of "expense" are we talking here?
A company we deal with recently did a turbo kit for a Japanese car and it took 3 years and they spent 5 figures. It's not worth the hassle especially for something as low production as F355 manifolds (by low production I mean less than 500 sets). I have 1 set of 5.2 headers on backorder for a customer in HK. Ordered them beginning of Dec was told they'd be ready end of Dec. and now it's end of Jan... Just for reference no aftermarket manifolds for the F355 have C.A.R.B sticker. All of them are sold for off-road use only. Of course this only means something in a few states.
Why not get the Naperformance headers---I have heard good things about them----Kevin you listening--brownie points!!
Five figures is a big arena, 10k - 99k. If it is on the lower end I think it is well worth it. Seeing how much they get for the set. Though if it is on the high end well that might explain why they are not CARB approved.
Availability is an issue with them sometimes, we have an 8 week backorder on the 5.2 set right now. Each set takes anywhere from 7-10 days to make and even after cutting off wholesale customers on these, I still have at least 5 or more on order at any given time. My only other option is get them mass produced overseas but quality worries me.... Some customers have even gone as far as getting me reputable manufacturers in China. I honestly wish somebody would make a quality header and compete with me that way I could supply mine and something else for people who do not want to wait and have a piece that is comparable to. And I am listening, you know when your headers go out there will be a set waiting for you with a nice discount! I still have not forgotten that gift certificate you gave me for the 1:18 scale cars, that was very nice of you. I was trying to avoid giving the exact amount because I'm really not supposed to say but it's in the $30's. It may be worth their time but it also has to meet and pass EPA requirements which is where the problem may be? I'd hate to spend 5 figures to find out my item won't pass. I'm sure there's some reason they have not done it already. Regards, Kevin
maybe one of the European Fchat members could purchase and ship a set of these tubi headers for someone as a favor.
I just installed Stebo, $1,000 less than Tubi. Mine were $5400 actually installed, this includes labor.
Understood, though those tubi versions should be able to "pass" any test the factory versions have "passed". A turbo kit is waaaaay more involved than a "replacement" part. Well I guess tubi knows the feasabilty or lack thereof.
