With the costs of import and the vatious "nanny" taxes and duties to support your local auto industry, all cars are more expensive in Oz; and the exotics proportionally more so. Fact is that outside the Gulf, nowhere in the world is it easier and less expensive to own a Ferrari than the US. But with that said if you drive them as they should be driven, namely every day, the cost is no different than if you leave them in the garage (other than gas) because they deteriorate at the same rate. Excepting the Challenge cars where costs run at 5 figures every year, my guess is that most of these cars cost $10 a mile if all maintenance is done as needed.

So I should have spent $50k on maintenance over the last year? I could buy a spare one for that much...

Thats it really, if you buy an exotic car and keep it in the garage then there is no point in owning one. As i have seen more and more people writing about leaving a car in the garage for a long period will deteriorate faster then driving it around. Maintenance would be double. What about if you were to buy one in RHD and have it imported to Aus, then put in extra money towards restoring it? Would it be cheaper to get one imported or would it be cheaper to buy one already registered in Aus?
