You got it. Speedline with polished rim. I believe these were the last set in the U.S. Personally, I like them so much that it caused me to part with the original rims.
Again, in my experience, no comparison. I had the "major" maintenance (7500 miles) done on the Gallardo for a total of about $1700. From here all that is required are oil changes for quite some time. The G is engineered by Audi and has the German reliability including a timing chain instead of belts. It is the engine out that causes so much labor on the 355 major. (Takes a lot of time to remove and reinstall) I plan to do another major on the 355 in 2010. That will run me closer to $6000+. I do have to say though, the 355 has been very reliable and my only real costs have been the two prior majors. Probably why the Gallardo is on the road more than the 355!
View from my back patio. You might not be able to make it out too well but that is a Bald Eagle in the picture just above my boat. It was trying to pluck a Black Coot but missed. Who says that living in Central California isn't comfortable? Sorry, don't want to hijack the thread. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I test drove a Gallardo this past spring in Florida, the gallardo doesn't even come close to the thrill of driving an F355. The gallardo is faster and handles better but it is a boring car to drive.
Funny you say that, an Aussie Fchatter said the same thing about his Gallardo. He also owns a LP 640, F430 and a new-ish Porsche GT2! He ended up selling his black Gallardo because it was boring. I cant comment, because I have never driven one. Here is a pic of his Gallardo and 430 in the background. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The bugs always tell the tale of how a car's driven!! I reckon your friend gives an accurate review. My shop was very impressed when I showed up with 500+ bugs stuck to my front bumper!
Yeah, that was a one off! Car was taking to Outback Australia for a few days. Lots of speed and lots of bugs! He sold the car not long after that IIRC.
Dont worry mate, this guy LOVES it! In 2005, he took his 360 CS and GT2 out there. In 2006, he took his F430 and Gallardo out there. In 2007, he took his Murcielago out there. This year he was looking forward to taking his LP 640 out there but everyone was a little too busy this year, so it didnt happen unfortunately. Perhaps next year and who knows what he will have in the garage by then.
Thanks J! The info you provided will be the basis of my decision for next summer. I am planning to either add a Porsche TT or a Gallardo next to the 355. Based on what you stated, I think I will add the Gallardo. I keep looking at the Yellow Gallardo and I think it looks awsome in that color. Thanks again J! Cheers!
Wait, how is the G "boring" ....I mean it's fast, looks pretty good, handles well. ... . .. I dont understand. And thanks for the pics JSL....one lucky dude
Wondering the same thing... Don't get me wrong, I am a Ferrari guy..but if I were in the market for a new exotic there is nothing out there that would compare to the G for the money... I think Lambo is on the game now and to me, the G and the Murci are the most amazing looking cars on the market being produced (not counting the $1,000,000 plus super exotics).....to me, the F355 is the last of the great Ferraris... McClaren F1 is still the most amazing car ever produced for its time, and even now...once again, IMHO....
+1 I don't understand either. The G is a gorgeous looking car and is fast from what I am understanding. The feel will be different from the 355 I think largely because the G is technologically more advanced which makes it less raw. The 355 on the other hand is a gorgeous car too, and the lines are absolutely stunning, not to mention the sound. The only issue I have with the 355 is that its power is not parallel to its beauty. I think an exotic car of its beauty, especially carrying the name Ferrari, should be more powerful. I used to own Porsche Turbos before, and I used to always think that if I ever encounter the gorgeous 355 on the road and did a short race, that I might be blown away. Obviously I never encountered one. Now that I have a 355, that I love by the way, I am a bit disappointed by the ratio of its power to its beauty. My 2 cents!
I think we need to bear in mind that when the 355 was new in its day. The power of the car was acclaimed by all motoring journalists world wide. 109bhp per liter was unheard of in a normally aspirated engine. There was not the slightest disappointment back in 1994, it was ground breaking at 380bhp. There was no car even the normally aspirated Porsche that could stay with it, it took the 993 turbo to beat it. And not by that much at that. Certainly not the 1994 316bhp Porsche 964 of the same year as the 355 was introduced. The Diablo was a very fast car top end wise only compared to the 355, but look at the CCs of that V12 engine. Its easy to think that just because the 355 is a popular Ferrari all the way though its life, that it should miracuously add 15bhp to every year of its life to keep up with the current crop of supercars The car is not a disappointment if its keeped in the right perspective of a mid 90s car. Just as the F40 which was the fastest car in the world back in the 80s is no disappointment today now its old. Personally i reckon the 355 has enough power to see of many in style. I make no apology for this re-post of one caning the Gallardo Love it http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=UU95E0q8Fgo
Kind of like comparing two fine wines! If you like a good Cab v. a good Merlot. It is a matter of taste. But, don't be fooled, the Gallardo is much faster than the 355. SO WHAT? I take the 355 out with my wife since she loves it. I take the Gallardo out with my sons, they love it.
Noted, that video is taking way too long to download on my computer! Darn it!! Your point is very well stated. The technology has changed to the point that no comparison can reasonable be made. That's why someone needs one of each
"Kind of like comparing two fine wines!" Exactly, no comparison, thats why Im looking for a 355 cab...My Gallardo is on par with the 430, not the 355. http://www.fastestlaps.com/index.php?page_id=compare&car1=4585baaa80bd2&car2=4585764d0f9c7
The two Porsche Turbos that I had were a 1987 and a 1989. The 355 stands no chance with either of them.
You are talking about the standard 1987 & 1989 911 Turbo right? The 3.3 (1989) one with 285 bhp? and the 3.3 (1987) 330 hp models? http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=162690 How exactly did a 380bhp 355 not stand a chance? I have toyed with these cars on the road and they have always been found wanting. So was your cars tuned? Just to clear up my confusion, you initially said yesterday
