Do you need to remove the door panel to remove the window switch or does it pop out? Thanks.
You do not need to remove door card to gain access to switches. The electric window switches sit inside a rectangular plastic retainer. This pops out of the door. However it has plastic retaining tabs. From memory these are at the 12. 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions. Be very careful you don't break the tabs when removing. I used a thin screwdriver and plastic trim removal tools to "ease" out focusing on area where tabs are located. Once removed the individual switches easily remove from retainer by pressing tabs top and bottom of actual switch.
The above info is exactly right for the drivers side pass side i am not sure. Just replaced driver side so i know for sure. They r easy to break though so be careful. The new one i bought was a couple hundred bucks i think. You can probably look on ebay and there will be pics of it.
Thanks guys. Removed both switches on both sides. They were really sticky and cleaned them with Simple Green and easily removed all that goo.
I placed a small screwdriver on the top and bottom and you will feel where the tabs are hanging up. You may need to move the screwdriver on the side to tease it out. I soaked the switch holder in Simple Geen as someone else suggested and the sticky material came right off . I wiped the switch itself with Simple Green. They were easy to remove. Take your time and should be no problem.
You may be able to epoxy the tab back on. I've used a two part epoxy specifically made for plastics to repair a few broken ones with good results. Just build up the back side of the tab so it doesn't interfere with the tab locking into position.
As you said mine came off easy there are for tabs on each holder all are in the middle. Thanks Bob just scared to break it thats all.
When I purchased my car, the plastic tabs were all ready broken and the holder kept coming out of the door. To cure the problem I made some holders out of billet aluminum on my CNC mill The holder slides onto the door inlay and is held in place by 2 very small screws. If anyone is interested, I can post some photos. I also made some extras so I have them available in case someone else needs one.
Great idea. If the design would work on other areas it would be nice. The outside AC vents have problematic plastic tabs as well. I have a broken one on one and an alternative to a new vent would be nice as Sticky No More refinished them with the correct decals and it would be a shame to trash it for a broken tab
After you break the tabs off, and the damn thing pops out every time you touch it ...... You can put a couple dabs of rubber/contact cement on each piece and glue it back on. I know this is taboo but screw it, you only need glue at the top. That way you can still get it off in the future, slip a piece of dental floss in there and off it comes.
Yes post some photos ..... please, those would be nice to have. I checked my garage and I don't seem to have a CNC machine out there
The Ac vents don't have that holder so that extra piece isn't in play. The tab I'm referring to on it is kind of critical to getting it to sit properly. PIA
Sorry to revive such an odd thread but the tabs on my driver and passenger side window switches are broken and gone. any suggestions other than buying new switches? Anyone done a CNC make like above and willing to sell some?
These? They are pretty cheap I found. I replaced driver and passenger and kept the old switches. A bit of searching you can find both sides pretty cheapy sometimes just the trim plate for the passenger side if that's what you need. Good luck! https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ferrari-348-Mondial-t-LH-Window-Switch-New-P-N-144797/124410747815?epid=1540731083&hash=item1cf7755ba7:g:YyIAAOSwJuJfmKfv
Don't think so, the 355 ones have a different design and bezel, the point is with some searching and x-ref you can usually find them. 348 ones vary from $20 to $150 a piece depending if they have FIAT or Ferrari or Alfa part number used, yet its the same switch with the same part number stamped on it. Ferrari usually did not make the switches and plates they are typically used in other cars, its an x-ref issue mostly I suspect. Best of luck.
You referring to the trim for the window switches? The actual switch does not have tabs. I have trims around here
