Thought some of you might be intersted in some pics of my F355 with nitrous oxide. It's a 'Wizards of NOS' kit jetted at 100 BHP with various mods such as : Digital progressive controler, copper nitrous pipe & 'cool tube' (due to extreme heat in the engine bay).

I only finished it the other day, it's totally transformed the car, performance is utterly superb.

    Regards
    Dave

Any problems? I wonder how well these engine's stand up to Nitrous. I would imagine pretty well since you can slap twin turbos on them. Let us know about any problems.

Did the additional display next to the NO2 switch require the A/C control panel be flipped upside down?

F355's should have no problem handling nitrous as long as it's properly used, many think that nitrous blows up your engine, myth.

No what hurts your engine is an improper air/fuel ratio,
improper ignition, and cam timing, possible fuel starvation using the stock fuel pump, leading to an ultra lean mixture and detonation,
which result in, well you know!

If done properly it can be great, but by omitting something as small as a fuel pressure safety switch, you can do a "hole" lot of damage.

Exactly, proper use of nitrous and cautionary steps taken to make sure it's reliable and has the supporting mods (fuel pump, etc) can make a vehicle that's very reliable. Glad to see this board isn't ignorant on nitrous as some other ones.

My only issue with it would be the possiblity of resale problems. If done correctly NOS won't do any more damage than turbos or a SC. All your doing is adding a more efficient burning gas to the mixture which allows you to burn more fuel. Turbos and Scs just force more oxegen, same thing really. But if the wrong steering wheel in one of these cars hurts resale, what wold NOS do?

I can't speak for the Ferrari, but I've added a supercharger to my Lotus and can vouch for doing that :D

Just makes it feel like a bigger cc engine, without any weight, lag or any other penalities...well, except fuel consumption. More than doubled my power :D :D

The car gives porch (sic) turbos etc a real shock as a result of the doubled power ;) And that's with a 1.8L engine :)

I considered Nitrous on top of that but decided against it when my insurer said they wouldn't insure it under any circumstances if I went ahead.

Nothing wrong with nitrous otherwise unless you get greedy and put in jets that are too big (or do the job on the cheap & wrongly).

If only doing one thing, I'd supercharge. That way, you always have the extra oomph :D

Jas, I am intrested in your supercharger on your Elise. I have looked into the turbo kit from ForceFed, who makes the SC for our car?

SuuWeeet setup Dave. The laughing gas is the cheapest why to ad power to any car. For just a few hundred bucks you get a whole lot of bang.

I REALLY like the splitter on the front of your car. Who makes it?

I imported it from japan about 2 years ago, cost about £1700 to get it here (really silly money) but it was the only one (other that the Koenig version) i could find that i liked. I also had a get another chap from Japan to buy it for me from them, have it shipped to him & then on to me as they wouldn't ship overseas themselves. Then the website vanished !.

I was toying with the idea of having a mould of it made (we deal with a few GRP moulders). I could have a mould made for about £800-£1000 + sell them for around £300 - £400 each then. I'm, just put off about copyright issues, perhaps if the mould dimensions were modified slightly would this be OK ? ... or should i steer well clear ?

:D She was originally 118bhp, which with the car's light weight was good for 0-60 in 5.6 secs.

After all my modding, she is now 245bhp, with just 730kg weight. i.e. over 330bhp per ton :D

I am considering swapping out the 1.8L engine for a bigger 2.8L, and supercharging that, but fear she simply cannot take any more than 4-500 bhp or so per ton and remain drivable....or in one piece

    Hi,

Yes I know of those kits. Nice power, but not nearly as elegant as a supercharger on the lightweight Elise. Turbos give a non-linear response, plus lag, and also tend to die away at the top end, whereas a supercharger is linear, lag-free and also keeps adding power all the way to the red line.

Downside of supercharging is that it is inherently less efficient (fuel), and is far more expensive to do.

Mine was done by a company in Northampton called Turbo Technics. They *really* know their stuff, but aren't cheap.

As well as the supercharger, they re-did a lot of the engine (new pistons, cams, con rods, porting & flowing the head etc), new ECU, lots of plumbing for 2 more oil coolers and a charge cooler, with associated radiators. All in lightweight aluminium, weighing a total of 18kg extra including fluids.

I've also had a lot of non-engine mods done by the specialist MotorSports division at the Lotus factory (aerodynamics, suspension, tyres/wheels, brakes, gearshift, weight reduction).

The car has had a small fortune spent on it :(

Anyway, sorry for the non-Ferrari posts but I hope they might be of help :)

I'm going to try to avoid modding my Ferrari (much) though ;)

    Jas
