Wonder if someone can advise if the Exhaust manifolds need to be removed before pulling out the Engine and gearbox as one assembly from the shell OR can the headers be left alone.

Trying to avoid removing those tricky nuts from the headers.

If they do need to come off, does it need any special 13mm tool or you just need to get them off with a lot of patience.

    Thanks

I do believe the headers need to be removed (some with more experience can confirm), may I ask why you are pulling the motor?

Re-Shelling a CS for someone who crashed it. Quite an interesting project. Stripped the front end, interior and most of the rear except the Engine needs to come out and then the fuel tanks .

Per the WSM, they need to come off

    it is difficult,

I have a lift and it took me only 30 min to remove all 16 nuts. not that bad
installing those 16 nuts took me like 45 min

I wonder if you could do me a favor. i was looking for the OEM wiring places of the 360's clutch position sensor.

The wiring comes from a loom on the RH side, inside of the RH panel. How was that wire goes to the clutch position sensor, is it routed to the back along with the F1 hydraulic lines and then goes forward?

    Headers
It is possible to take the engine out with OEM headers on, assuming you remove the tank shields first - but it's tighter than a duck's arse.
You'll end up swearing at it so much you'd wish you took them off.
And putting them back on takes forever as the front nuts are total bastards to reach.

Wiring (when standing at the back)
Down the right side, across the ladder frame under/front of the air box and then down.

I can take pics for you. (I marked all the cables and hoses when removing them using masking tape on the cables and the shell and frames). A total of 3 black sheath cable looms going from gear box to the car. There are 2 cables coming out of the gear box and one thicker one going into it (has a red tape marker on it ) . The one going into it from the main loom has a bid squarish black connector which plugs near the Right side inner C V joint shaft while the 2 coming from the box have 2 thinner wires with the 2 flat connectors of about 4 to 5 cables each. These 2 connectors sit on the black frame right above the right side shock top area. The routing of the 3 cables is together as a cluster with 3 clamps. The 1st one is on the top right of the Aluminium Cradle , second one a few inches in at the same cradle and then another clamp on the gearbox near the C V joint.

I guess its a job of patience then and even one header of means there should be some room to move it out. You do wonder how they service some items on regular cars even though this one I am doing should be easier as its being totally stripped to the bare shell. I found 5 items v painful to remove. The ABS pump, The wiper motor, the Aircon Evaporator and the P Steering rack. Wonder if its due to parts being squashed due to the crash or its normally a pain to remove them.

Looks good. The 2 black tubes which u marked in blue should clip onto a black connector that fits on the lower side of the air box. I'll take pics in the morning as I have 2 complete n finished 360 modena cars at home in original condition too.

One thing I must warn you about as I found it on the CS today. The metal bracket that has the 2 big oil cooler braided metal pipes going from engine to the right rear wheel housing has been chaffing the hoses in the car I worked on today, the aluminium bracket has been half chewed up. Maybe a good idea to put a rubber sheath and cable tie it to prevent movement between the hose and metal bracket. It's a bracket which fits on the bottom of the aluminium cradle

i understand what you mean, but I thought the "chew" is actually original? The part comes new that way?
its such a coincident that I installed this bracket today. Initially I don't know which side should I install it, until I look at my original pics when I was removing it.

please do. I just want to know how that red-lined wire goes to the clutch position sensor

Quite a bad and rough finish if it's original . Seems very sharp.

I've replaced my OEM exhaust manifolds with a couple of different (but not special) wrenches. It's a pain but doable.

You can use brass nuts with a smaller head (10mm) when you reinstall them and the job goes really easy. You can access all of them with a 1/4" ratchet and socket. Mine went in like cake. I believe bolt depot sells them.
